1911’s in general, 9mm versions specifically

Does anyone have experience with 9mm Colt Defenders? I’ve had a Springfield EMP in the past but liquidated it in a time of need. An EMP is on my radar but I do like the looks and 1911-standard parts of the Defender. I’d also be interested in any 9mm CCOs- commander slide, officer frame.

In general, they take work to get running reliably.

The CCO is a better choice for reliability.

Update. This is all @Formidilosus fault. I never would have bought a scope that held zero or recognize a Tikka action is that much smoother and feeds better than my Rems. Now the 1911 bug bite me and he was correct. I shoot these better than Glocks. Even the factory Tisas has a better trigger and I found that with the point ability of how my hands fit is better and more natural.

When I did drills on dueling trees I would get frustrated with my Glock and move to my single action ruger. I shoot the single action very well. The Glocks had a 40-50% hit rate for me on 6” plates at 20 yards. The 1911’s are all 75-80% and I haven’t tweaked them at all. Only have about 200 rounds through the 3 of them so far.

Just had Dawson install new sights on the STI and will shoot it this week. Then order wood grips for it. The Staccato C trigger is amazing and I need to find some to make the STI similar.

It happens quick.

Thanks bud. I must have missed them
I think the general guide is:
  • Milt Sparks = the classic option, but take a while.
  • Southern Trapper = also well made, more options available including exotic leathers, and faster.
  • Falco = often in stock, cheaper, but I haven't done the research on reviews/quality.

Monkeys Edge often has Milt Sparks in stock. I’ve ordered from them successfully, though their return policy is strict so take note.

Thank y'all for your help. i found what i'm looking for. I just found this thread the other day. I'm still making my way through it. This should be a fun/ very expensive journey
