Looking to get optics on a T1x that will be used for small game and occasional predators (mostly fox and lynx). I'm looking to keep it lightweight, as I'll be skiing up mountains with it, but still be able to take shots on ptarmigan or hares out to around 100yds.

I have a Leupold VX-Freedom in 3-9x40 that's currently sitting on a .270 that I could upgrade and steal from. The 270 doesn't *need* something new though, I'm really only shooting it out to 300yds and I do like the lighter weight. If I took the Leupold for the 17HMR, I would likely end up with a new Trijicon Accupoint or VX-3/5 on it. I'm not a turret-dialer, and would prefer a capped turret design for both.

I've been looking at the Leupold and SWFA rimfire rifles. The SWFA 2.5-10x32 Ultralight is appealing, but I'm wondering if I'll miss a wider FOV picking out targets in the brush? Are there any other scopes I should be considering?

Hell , ive had a Burris Fullfield 3-9x42 on my Alexander Arms 17HMR for years. Never once had to rezero it . Hits dime size groups at 50m for me all the time. Ive only shot out to 150 with any regularity. Im sure it would be fine for out to 300 as well. Cheap scope but has been damn reliable for 8 years for me.

For my 17 HMR’s I don’t feel a need to use rimfire scopes, but don’t necessarily avoid them either. In no to light wind conditions I‘m shooting to 175-200 yards at times on prairie dogs/sage rats. A smaller 2-7x33 works well, as do fixed 4 or 6 power scopes. A fixed 4x might be close to perfect for your use, 100 yards and light weight.

2-7 or a fixed 4 seem perfect. I just looked up those Burris scopes, and while I haven't found one with a plain duplex reticle, they could be a good option.

The Vortex Crossfire 2-7x33 also seems like a great budget option, and if I don't like it, not a huge amount spent...

I think I was unclear-- the 300yds is the most I'd be looking at with the 270. I mentioned it in case anyone thought it would be good to take the 3-9x40 for the HMR, and upgrade the glass on the 270.

The HMR I expect to be in the 50-100 range in the field, but would like to extend to 100-200 at the range.

I think I'm going to pick up a 2-7 and run with that on the HMR, and keep the 3-9x40 on the 270.

Just mounted a VX-Freedom 3x9 Firedot on my sons Savage .17 WSM.

He absolutely loves it(it’s the firedot) and it’s a tack driver

The trijicon Huron on euro optic would fit your 270 well and is cheap right now

Burris Fullfield ii 3x9, on a Savage. Had a leupold but sold it ,wanted to try the Burris. Have leupold on most rifles but the Burris is really nice, about equal to VX2. Works great on a hunting rifle, not so much if target is the main use for the rifle.

The Burris 3-9 with Ballistic Plex reticules make a great .22LR and .17HMR scope and are fine on a .270. I have used a couple for that application as well on a Remington M7 .260 Remington.

I have a Hawke 4x12x40AO Vantage IR 17 hmr scope . I have shot out to 250 yds on targets. I think it has lines to shoot out to 300 yds. They make one for 22 mag. I will be getting one. I watched a guy shooting steel at 300 yds with a 22 mag.
