175 Accubond Long Range BC’s and Results

Trying to decide between a few bullets for my 7 PRC and have been curious about the 175 ABLR/LRAB. I’ve read a lot about Nosler inflating their BC’s on various bullets and was wondering what people are using for these in comparison to the advertised .326 g7. Also curious to see how people have liked them on game. Torn between these, the Berger 175 EH, and 180 Hybrid for deer/Antelope.

Completely disregarding their BC and terminal performance, the LRAB has been the most frustrating bullet I've ever used. Based on my experience I'd recommend almost anything else. I use 180 Hybrids in my 7mm's with great results.

I appreciate the feedback. Is that just with difficulty finding accurate loads or inconsistent flight? I’ve seen complaints about both before on it.

I’d only be pushing either of the 3 around 2750-2800 at the muzzle due to an 18” barrel, so that’s where I’ve got some hesitation on the 180 performing reliably. Admittedly I tend to overthink things though.

Yes and yes.

168 Berger's would be a great choice with a shorter barrel, I'm firm believer in Berger for what I expect a bullet to do so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I have considered the 168’s as well and have plenty for testing. Just wasn’t sure there would be enough difference to really matter between them and the 175’s that I also have on hand.

Any concerns with lower muzzle velocities? I’ve got some ADG on the way so I’m expecting to get decent improvement over the Hornady brass I’ve been using, but the barrel is still pretty short.

Run the numbers through a ballistic calculator. I've had great results with them down to 1800 FPS impact velocity but haven't used them any lower than that.

Ran the numbers the other day through a calculator based on data from GRT and all 3 are almost identical out to 700 which is why I got hung up. The 180 does have a slight edge in all categories and is expected just over 1900fps at my altitude. Sounds like I need to just let my rifle pick.

You're just over 2000 fps at 800 yards, unless you plan on shooting animals farther than that, you're good to go.

Not planning on that at this time. Limiting myself to 600/700 with this rifle. Thanks for the feedback

I witnessed a bull killed at 690 with one that started at the muzzle at 2590... took 3 rounds but he didn't take a step and the first one would have done it. Take that for what it's worth with such a small sample size. The far side hide caught 2 and one exited.

Any expansion concerns with something smaller than elk?

The batch I've tested in my 7SS grouped well, and have had success with the 142gr in a shorter 6.5CM on deer. I ever get the factory seconds which I've never had any issues with.

I did use some 140gr RDF bullets in that same 6.5CM and the BC was a little inflated. The box said .330 G7 and somewhere around .317-.318 was where all my data lined up and where I calculated it using a Labradar.

I’ll second the 168gr berger. Its the only 7mm bullet you will ever need. We killed two AK moose last year with them loaded up in my 280AI. Killed a boat load of elk and deer and bears. This bullet just flat works…

I’m also rebarreling a tikka to a 7prc. I was debating between the Berger 168 hvld, 175 elite hunter and 180 hvld. I’m planning on going with the 175 elite hunter for a few reasons….

I wanted the elite ogive for jumping to lands forgiveness.

I should be able to get within .030” from the lands on a sammi chamber with factory tikka mag.

I think there’s something to the cavity length from nose to lead of the Bergers. I don’t have my notes with me, but the 168 and 180 vlds cavity length was around .260-.280” if I remember right. The 175 elite hunter was considerably longer closer to .380”. Those measurements probably aren’t exact, just going from memory. I didn’t have a 180 hybrid to measure the cavity length. I’ve read some people haven’t had good luck with the 195’s and think they have a short, under .300” nose cavity also. The 30 cal 215 hybrid has a cavity of over .400”. Maybe there’s something to this dimension that means something for expansion or terminal performance.

I’ve got 5 boxes of the 175’s to start with. Should have the rifle back soon to start load development…

My lands are a mile away. To seat the 175 EH at the neck/shoulder junction I had to jump it 100 thou. They still shot great though. I loaded up some 180’s at 65 thou jump so we’ll see how they shoot if I can square away some range time

Is your experience with 7mm PRC, 1-8 twist? Barrel length?
