I recently purchased a bunch of .17 caliber bullets, and one of the bulk boxes was simply labeled with Sharpie, ".17 Rem 25gr". Any idea what these might be? If you've seen them, do they look anything like the old Remington 25gr Corelokt bullet?

The points and OAL are a bit inconsistent, but for the price, I can't complain at all.

They look to be the old REM 25gr PowrLokt. They were the original 17rem bullet and are excellent for both accuracy and terminal performance. The 22 caliber ones were good too. They are a plated bullet like a Fusion.

Ah, PowrLokt, not CoreLokt, I had the wrong name there. Thanks for that and for taking a look.

Does the plating make a difference in barrel fouling?

I haven’t noticed any more or less fouling than when using Hornadys or Bergers in my 17Rem. Same story with the .224 versions in my 222Mag.

Only a sample of 2 rifles but that’s all the data I have.

I did kill what was probably the biggest pig I’ve ever shot with a single 55 grainer out of the 222Mag. Huge pig on the run at around 200 yards, last round in the gun as I’d killed 4 others with the rest of the magazine when the big one came boiling out of the brush going hell for leather away from me. I stuck it in about 3 ribs back from the shoulder on a quartered angle, heard it land and the pig give a short grunt before running on over the hill out of sight. He was piled up right over the hill, made it about 75 yards from point of impact.
