Hey all. I'm interested in hearing anyone's first hand, hands on experience with how the 162 gr eldx performs on various game. Please, no other cartridge recommendations. If you've used this on big game, i'd love to hear your findings on expansion, reliability at different yardage, etc. I'm shooting 28 nosler but any of the 7mm users that use that bullet would provide valuable testimonies. Thank you!

Use the forum search function and you'll find several threads about the performance. Here is a good one to start with.

Shot a white tail at 70 yds with a 3250 MV from 7wsm and 162 eldx. Hit my targeted shot placement behind should 1/3 way up. No exit and somehow hit some guts (guessing fragments. Best I could tell bullet exploded headed through and fragmented a bit. Never found core. Did die quick but made a mess and destroyed a bit extra meat.

With my 143 out of 6.5C (2875fps) I get 3” exit holes and quick deaths (6 or so to date).

I switched to 175eldx and slowed them to 3000fps MV and hoping for better success. 3250 with that bullet is too fast from my single experience. Small sample size but good enough for me to change it up a bit.

I shoot them out of a 7mm rem mag around 2900 fps. Blacktail at 550 yards quartering away through ribs and shoulder blade. Perfect performance found under hide.
Mule deer at 375 through both shoulders golf ball sized exit. Lots of damage but did the job(will try to avoid large bone now)
Wife shot a Blacktail at 50 yards in the forehead. Performed ok.
You might push them to fast with the 28

I shot this guy at e 325 yards with a 25-06 and a 110 grain eld-x. I hit him 2 times above the heart. Both holes touching. Blew clean through him with both shots. It shed the jacket on one and that’s all I found. Bull never took a step. They do a good job overall. I think there are better overall bullets but these do a good job with accuracy and killing animals in a good amount of situations

A 175 eldx at 2820 FPS MV didn’t pass through an immature wolf for me. To me that means a 162 eldx at 28 nosler speeds is a probably poor choice.

I personally took an AZ bull and saw two more killed with the 28 Nosler shooting this bullet last season. All three were very good outcomes.

If the intent is longer distances (think AZ late season bulls) then I think it's a very good choice. If you're taking sub-200 yard shots at various angles on elk then I think you could do much better.

My brother has a 28 nosler and with eldx’s has taken a deer at 75yds, one at 250, and an elk at around 200. All of them dropped. The bullet did it’s job. None of them exited and they completely fragmented throughout the animal. It was hard to find pieces of the bullets, they were tiny. Just our experience with them. I personally think there are better bullets out there for the higher velocitys.

This is great guys. Thank you. Keep the experiences coming. I'm just wanting to have a bullet that I can completely rely on at long range but if I'm presented with a 100 yard shot, I'm not scared to take it. I recognize that there's not a perfect all in one solution for all yardage and species but I am hoping this one is a well rounded as possible. I have 60 rounds because it's what I could find.

I shot 3 antelope with the 162 eld-x going 3100 out of a 7mm WSM. 150-300 yards all fragmented with no exit and was not able to recover any intact piece of the bullet.

I’ve used the 143 eld-x, 162, and 212 on deer, antelope, and elk. I found performance very similar to Bergers.

I've killed 2 muley's and a whitetail with this bullet. 180, 300 and 350 yards. Both muley's dropped in their tracks. One was quartering to, hit him between the shoulders, no exit, core separated, found jacket peeled back to interlock ring. Other was broadside, a bit high shoulder entrance, blew right through him. Whitetail buck went 40-50 yards, no bullet recovery. They seem to work real well on deer, in my experience.

I shoot eldx out of my 7mm rem mag. In the last 4 to 5 years that setup has killed 5 elk, 1 moose, 2 antelope and a mulie, IIRC. The distance varied from 50 yds to 420 yds. No more than 2 shots were needed.

Killed 2 muleys with factory loaded 162 eldx ammo for my 7 rem mag. 625 yards and 500 yards. At 625, deer was bedded and the shot was square in the vitals - he just rolled into a small valley out of sight but was dead within 10 yards of his bed. At 500, I misread the wind, bullet was about 10" left of POA but did him in the neck - which also dropped and killed him instantly. I killed another deer at range with the ELD-X bullet but it was a 6.5cm 143gr at 250 yards. That deer also died very quickly and I was able to find that bullet just outside his opposite shoulder inside the hide. Bullet retained about 130 grains and had good expansion.
