Something you don't mind beating on a little... also - depends on budget (like everything else right)
If you like SxS's the little Turkish Dickinsons are tough to beat for the money... For O/U's Beretta is almost never a bad choice... Franchi... there are some other less expensive guns like mossberg, Steven's, stoeger that I have less experience with. Might be great lightweight 'chukar guns' that don't cause tears when you fall side-hilling?
Go fondle a few and see what grabs you. Chances are you will like something immediately when picking it up. Happy hunting! 🙂

The Dickinsons I was thinking are the 'estate's models, not the 'plantation' or 'prestige'... and I think they were at the upper end of your $ range new... if that helps?
I think Cabelas was a dealer in the states, and you could get them in a few different configurations. The reason they came on my radar is that you can get two triggers, extractors, and interchangeable chokes. All things I like. They are also scaled actions (I believe). The 20 and 28 gauges are pretty nice little guns in particular.

Benelli; I was hunting just north of Richland in the canyon about this time 4 years ago, I was 60. Rain then freezing rain then snow on top. It wasn’t as bad walking as you might think, until it wasn’t. Fell and broke my leg. Used the barrel of my Benelli as a splint. Got into Ontario, got fixed up. Sent the barrel back to Benelli with an explanation, they sent me a new one- free. I’ve been hunting those bastards for over 50 years, hate the damn things.
I love nice SxS shot guns, in particular 20s and 28s. The only time I’ll use those is early when it’s hot and dry and there are enough birds down low near the river to keep us busy. Typically easier ground. In any event I like the Dickensons, Ithaca’s and Brownings in your price range.
mostly for chukar I carry an ultra light Benelli 20 gage.
Hunt chukar the first time for the experience from then on its revenge.
Which breed of pup are you getting?

Cz Upland Ultralight in 12g. I've been pretty happy with it the last few years and I haven't cried when I've faceplanted on it this winter.

The GWP is very popular here. Don’t get it; life’s too short to sleep with an ugly woman; hunt with an ugly gun or follow an ugly dog.👍 Actually think they are great dogs.

I've seen the difference in toughness between the two. My gsp would stop after the 2nd cactus and make me pull the quills, my drahthaar will pull the quills on the run and keep at it....she's 13 and had stitches once. That was from a fight that ripped her ear bad.

They are ugly, but they're tougher than the rest by a measureable amount.

What ever dog you get make sure it likes to hunt close, those Chukar only give you a few seconds before they're out of range.

In my adult lifetime I have still yet to see a meat getter as slim, sleek, durable, and unpretentious as a Beretta 686 20ga w/ English stock. Fast and light, like nunchuks with a trigger. Please note that I don't have any idea about who makes what nowadays... Been 25+ years since I had any desire to shop a new shotgun.

I have a Remington v3 12 gauge, and a weatherby sa 08 in 20. Both synthetic and 26". The Remington is the nicer gun imo. Both work and are light, and cheaper than an o/u. Put the savings toward a good gps collar for the new pup. Losing your bird dog is a terrible experience.

Wrench- what length of barrels do you have on yours? I think I’d prefer 26” but all of them I’ve found have been a bit out of my price range

My 26" bss file won't upload. The difference is not worth fighting over. I'd buy the first one you can afford that fits you.
