I recently picked up a Katabatic Gear Flex 15 quilt. I've now had four nights in it and can say I'm very satisfied with my purchase so far. I have quilts from EE and Hammock Gear, and can say the Katabatic is definitely on another level as far as quality and features. Light weight, packable, and super warm once you get the hang of the pad attachment system and use the draft collar properly. I've been pairing it with a Nemo Tensor insulated pad....comfy setup so far.
If I were in the market for a quilt, I think Katabatic would be my choice hands down.

xtherm max pad and Viam Outdoors/EE quilt

@verysimple how do you like the Viam vs the EE? What temps have you ran your Viam down to? I was torn between the Viam and an EE quilt ended up going with the viam 10* and plan to run that with the Xtherm pad for an october elk hunt in ID this year

Don't have viam. Not happy with my 2015 ee down quilt since they understuffed it back then.
EE has a great pad attachment system that might give it the edge.
Many other great apex quilt vendors out there: nanutak, ugq, timmermade, loco libre, hammock gear, etc.

I have a Sierra Cloud 800 (15 degree extreme and 25 degree comfort rating) and it's awesome combined with a klymit insulated static v. Zipper less mummy bag, no insulation where the pad will have it compressed to nothing to save weight, roomy fit and still light and packable. Kind of combines the pro's of a quilt and a bag.

My hunting partner has this bag and loves it. I almost bought it before my Sierra

If you can, I'd save a little more and get the SG Chilkoot 15. I love that bag. I have lots of other high end bags and the SG is my favorite.

Same here. I have owned and used a Western Mountaineering bag, and I got to use the Chilkoot 15 lat week on a 7 day backpack hunt and man that thing is sweet. I thought it was roomy and very comfortable to the skin. It also did a great job of drying out my damp sweaty clothes. I wore my hunting pants an shirt to bed 2 nights as I was pretty damp and I woke up dry and warm. The loft on the bag was unphased and looked the exact same. Also, it is a very warm bag. the temps didn't get below 45 at night and I never even touch the zipper. I left it fully unzipped everynight and never was once cold.

Marmot has Their sleeping bags On sale right now. Marmot has a phase 20 that would fit in your budget. Can’t go wrong with stone glacier or western mountaineering though. Might be hard to get a WM bag though as they shut down production this spring I think.
