Hi-

I have 15 NR mule deer points in Wyoming. Would love some advice on what you guys think the best course of action in using them. Are there limited draw areas that are worth using them all on? Is the best option to do a party application with one or more buddies for a specific Region or limited draw area where we can draw?

I am open to any and all suggestions.

(I see a similar thread on here but it looks like the responses were PMs. PMs are welcomed also if you don’t want to post on here.)

Thanks in advance for any help.

If I had any ideas I'd be more than happy to share them with you - I'm in the same exact situation. Need to double check but I have either 15 or 16 going into the draw this year. The 2 units I had my eye on when I first started building points aren't really worth it currently, was always one point behind when they still had good bucks.

We are sort of in no mans land, too many for most units and not nearly enough for the top end, if you do have a buddy to go with might be worth going that route - good luck to you (y)

Do the research, pick a unit, apply, go hunt. Check the Wyo F&G website for draw stats. Use onX or similar to givecyou a lay of the land.

I am in the same boat, with the same amount of points. Probably won't apply for a few more years though, just keep point building. It is kind of a no man's land for sure!

I would link up with someone who hunts G or H a lot and share your points. Someone who will do a bunch of summer scouting which is what it would take in my mind to ensure a good experience.

Alternatively pick a LQ unit with low hunter pressure, temper expectations for big bucks (160-170” maybe), and have an enjoyable experience.

But if biggest possible buck is the dream I’d look at spending serious time in western Wyoming or sharing points with someone who is willing to.

Here's an idea....

Contact various outfitters that primarily operate on PRIVATE land and inquire whether or not they offer any type of "point sharing" program. Depending on the region/unit, some really good hunts may only require 3-5 points to draw ...but due to their "private" status they go overlooked by the DIY hunters. By offering to share your points with an outfitters clients it can becomes a win-win situation. The outfitter can guarantee his clients tags year after year and YOU can gain access to some prime hunting that you would not necessarly have access to without paying a hefty fee.

I personally did this with my elk points last year and had a fantastic experience hunting out of a beautiful lodge ALL for NO-CHARGE (tips not included)!
