I have not shot an animal yet, but I just finished a 16.5” CM project and am getting 2750fps with the 130 TMK out of a brand new barrel with can. I am using Stabll 6.5. The dope is very impressive and depending on DA, can get to 1800fps out past 700 yards, so I don’t see a reason to go heavier given the reputation of effectiveness on game. Recoil is nice too.

Do you mind sharing what powder and charge? That’s 50 FPS faster than I get with an 18” barrel using 43.5g of H4350. Impressive!

45.5 of Staball 6.5. 2.825 COAL. REM 9 1/2 primer and Hornady brass. Stacks dimes out of a brand new barrel with no cleaning.

Staball 6.5 rocks. I use it in my 30-06 with a 19” barrel and get 2750 with 178 ELDM at 56.0. I have taken it up further to 57.0 with zero pressure signs, still shot tight but at 2820 but recoil was noticeably more than 2750.

Keep in mind I am shooting suppressed which has free-bore boost (20-30fps) and in the 90’s. I have not tested the velocities in colder temperatures… we haven’t had any.

My 18” 6.5cm w/suppressor is averaging MVs ~2750 with Sierra factory 130 TGK’s. That’s at 3100ft with temps in the 40°s.
So I’ve got high hope I can squeeze 2800 w/o running too hot using 130 TMK’s or ELDm’s.

My cousin let me take his Tikka 6.5 PRC for a while to do some load workups for him. One load was the 130TMK over 4831SC. Using soft Hornady brass, settled right around 3,000 fps on a really accurate load. They were intended for practice loads. However, he just took an antelope buck with one and it worked extremely well. 215 yards, so not far. It was almost too destructive, but definitely did its job.

I have a whack of 129 gr Interlocks. Haven't shot game with them yet, but have researched them extensively.

From what i see, very tough bullet

Cross post from the 6.5mm kill thread.

Shot a mule deer at 90 yards today while out hunting elk and due to caliber restrictions for elk in WY, I was carrying an 18” 6.5CM with 130 TMK handloads. To say this bullet is devastating would be an understatement. I think it would be a great choice for elk but is probably overkill for deer or anything smaller. I shot the crease, caught the posterior edge of the front shoulder on entrance and because he was slightly quartering away, I also caught the anterior front shoulder with the exit. No entry or exit wound and no blood seen in the snow but he died within 30 yards. 3+ inch entrance wound, 6+ inch hole through the offside lung and absolute carnage on the offside shoulder. Caught the bullet on the offside hide.

I’ll be using my 223 for deer going forward and hope to build a 6mm of some type in the future to carry when deer and elk are both possibilities.
