115 DTacs on deer

Ok ordered the Dtacs, did I f-up by getting the regular nosering Dtacs and not the deep cut? All I am worried about is elk this year, when the "S2H" bullet comes out ill be using that.....

If you're going to shoot a DTAC on thin skinned game it needs to have the nose ring. They will absolutely zip through otherwise. Once upon a time I had the privilege of hanging with Tubb, and upon my experience with some deer he advised me to file the tips more open--this helped some. We used to shoot the 117 DTAC (targets) back then too--it was good, but he'd have random bullets fall out of his group at 1000 when he was still competing in LRHP. 115's were simply more consistent and he dropped the 117's. I'd guess heat deformations on those tips were goofing things up. Those nose rings were made to create a more uniform drag profile over the bullet. Just so happened that baboons quit running away after they started shooting them with nose ringed DTACs instead of normal DTACs and the rest is history....
