10mm bullet selection

Lots of controversy between the 44 mag and the 10mm. 44 has the bigger more powerful bullet and the 10mm has more rounds. With the xdm you can have 10 round mag or 15 round mag depending on which xdm or mag you get. I cant tell you which way to go and it all comes down to personal preference. And it looks like you have made your choice. Good luck and I hope you get a big ole moose. Fatrascal.

"Were your feeding issues consistent or occasional? Happen right away or showed up later?

Asking since I’ve not had my XD-M that long and not had an issue with my 220s. But I’ve also not shot a ton of them."


The feeding issues occurred more frequently when my firearm was dirty and maybe a little dry. (After I had shot with other practice ammo). It would cycle sometimes with the 220 and sometimes they would hang up. I would mix practice ammo in with it and also shoot it by itself. Recoil Spring and Mags were in good shape and no other malfunctions with other ammo so I concluded it was the 220 grain. It wasn't every round but was consistent enough that I wouldn't trust enough for carry, especially when the 200 cycled fine.

I could not get the 220 to shoot consistently out of my G20 so I switched to the 140 grain Extreme Penetrator. They seem to cycle dependably and pretty accurate. The 220 grain kept jamming.

Underwood 200gr coated hardcast in my G20, performs very well even in rapidfire drills.

Spent most of today culling gear and weighing many times. We pretty much set.

Stuck with the paid for 44 that I was lights out with other day at range. Partner toting g20 with Buffalo bore hard cast.

I wont be able to do much good in the dark. Really just want the handgun for fishing and to have on me while cleaning a moose and hauling meat.

It’s a bit large, but I’m okay with it.

I've shot both. Underwood for me, no issues with it in my G40...and though i am a fan of Buffalo Bore I think they are overpriced in this case. BB is $42/bx before shipping, Underwood is $26.49 and if you practice with the ammo you carry, that's a huge difference.

Found a new G40 the other day here in town. Thought hard about it (if I was to go 10mm I’d have gone 40), but I didn’t know how I’d shoot it, it’s another $1k or more all said and done to carry and shoot well.

Just went with what I had.

FEIW, my partner was lights out with the G20 i. Practice ammo and fired three buff bore hard cast lights out. Great for him.

I fired practice ammo and really struggled with the gun. I struggle with most semis. Not sure why. Have a 22 that I can shoot.

To each his own, I reckon.

I’m taking the underwood with Leigh extreme penetrator in 44. I think 220gr. Shot a few at range and got them off pretty quick and on target.

7.5 is definitely too much barrel. But I’ll save the $1k and when carrying its because I’m aware. Otherwise I have rifle.

When I practice I have somebody hold the switch so the target is moving towards me (requires a cardboard target that doesn't fly like a paper target in motion) and see how many rounds are in the CNS. A bear will be moving much faster but it beats shooting at a stationary target.

Yeah. Wasn’t able to incorporate all that.

If nothing else, having it makes me FEEL better, even if it’s not terribly practical.

I already know which route I’d go. Just curious what you all think.

I run the Underwood Hardcast 200 grs out of my XD-M 10mm while bowhunting solo. Cycles well and accurate at short distances. Hope I never have to use it in the backcountry but nice to have if needed.
