107 or 116 TMKs for Tikka 1 in 8 twist?

My 8 twist, not tikka, loves the 107 tmk so far. So much that I see no need to try a marginally stabilized 116 in it.
Elevation 5,200 ft.

my tikka loves the 107. hated the 116s for what ever reason. some guys have been able to make the 116 work.

I will say you can notice the recoil difference between the 2

What kind of density altitude can you expect? At sea level in AK with winter use, I would go 107 in an 8 twist.

My 6 Creedmoor is a 1:7 twist to use the 116s without worry when DA is below -5000.

If it helps put your mind at ease, the 107 is REALLY efficient at comparable pressures to the 116.

Running both of these loads under the same exact charge of Varget the 107 edges out the 116 in retained velocity at 700yds. (18” barrel 1:7,5 twist 6GT)

And if I increase the charge of Varget on the 107 to match the same pressure at the 116 I’m *nearly* out to 800 yards with today’s density altitude. If I go up in elevation at all, I’d be well over 1800fps at 800.

All that to say that if the gun shoots the 107 well, please don’t consider it in any way “less than” or “not optimized” compared to the 116. Both seem great bullets. Go with the one that seems to agree with your gun the best.
