How many more sheep have auction tags put on the mountain? Because if we're basing it on tags available compared to 10 and 20 years ago, we have fewer. I know there are a lot of factors at play, but it gets tiring to keep hearing that we should be so grateful that the same 15 guys have a dick measuring contest at Sheep Show every year over who can pay the most to upgrade their FNAWS total score by 2". It's not a message that resonates with most hunters, much less non-hunters.

The Kuiu Conservation Direct program has probably done more dollar for dollar in the last 5 years for wild sheep conservation than most of these auction tags with exactly zero of the associated controversy that comes with a $1M tag.
Who is the greatest/largest private donor for the Kuiu Conservation direct program???

Im in i have had enough of that grind bullshit to last me a lifetime
Same, I'd used my grandma's grave as my front rest to shoot a 400" bull... I cant say I'm not jealous of Casey Brooks and this 1.2mil dollar ram. These guys are able to do things that my mind and bank account could never dream of, I tip my hat off to them and their situation.

The biggest donator to Kuiu Conservation program is a hunter that got into Sheep hunting via LO and Gov tags. He has donated millions to direct funding efforts, in addition to buying lots of tags.

So you may hate those 15 guys, but who else can stroke a 2 million check for protective fencing, or buy out domestic sheep grazing allotments…. They do way more outside of just funding the auction tags.

The Kuiu conservation fund is a great org, but financially make no mistake it’s the same core players footing a lot of it, and they do it because they get to hunt sheep.

The $hitty thing is that the public draw tag starts Sunday and Game and Fish just decided to do their aerial count via helicopter, pushing the herd. There’s another almost equal ram the public lady’s crew located. Conspiracy is that NMGF wants to push that ram into Bandelier (no hunting) so they can sell it for another cool million next year.

Also, Hornady is sponsoring the public tag winner. Got her fully outfitted and shooting some ELDX apparently. I’m sure it’ll be professionally filmed.
She got him. Stud ram

I’m more happy for her than a rich hunter. Don’t get me wrong here I’m glad the rich guys have the money to contribute to conservation and what not but it just impresses me more with public draw tag. I’m sure she had a guide as well and a posse of people watching sheep all summer long. 🤣 I’ve put in for NM sheep tags for years with no luck. I’ve had friends draw them and even my own dad drew one in 2019.

I’m not mad at the guy, I just think it’s stupid. Not only that it just guarantees “regular” people will never have an opportunity like that.

And for all tha talk about how great it is for sheep herds/hunting, that’s getting to the point most people can’t afford them either (as evidenced on here by people leveraging their mortgage or retirement Togo hunt one) so how is that great for the average guy that would like to hunt a sheep?

The 1.3million goes directly to habitat improvement guzzlers transplant etc. plus it will be matched with PR money dollar for dollar. So this ram will absolutely give us regular guys a better opportunity to hunt sheep.

The tag owner spent a lot of time stress and risk to get to the position he can spend 1.3 on a tag. He earned that ram just as much as the rest of us DIY hunters that can spend a couple weeks scouting researching and grinding to fill our tags.

He used his time accumulating funds to hire a team and buy a tag.

I’ve been blessed to have a few sheep tags in my pocket and help out on another few tags. There are lots of rams killed every year. And there would be way fewer killed if conservation money didn’t flow in from these tags.

Anyone bagging on this dude or team needs to step back and actually look at the big picture. Be happy for him and the team that got to help out. AND be thankful these type of dudes exist…because if they didn’t there would be less sheep on the mountain for us normal guys to chase.
