I used to wear heavy, stiff, bomb proof leather boots. They are still in great shape, but they sit in the closet while I wear lighter, synthetic boots today.
Mix and match, get the best of what someone makes for each instead of settling because you wanted all the same brand. Get solid colors, no camo. The animals won't think you less stylish, different brands match in solids and you can use the same clothes for hiking.
For companies that make layer systems normal size since layering is already factored into their sizes. Unless it's for a trip to somewhere abnormally cold, then size up.
