Happens way to often, last year a buddy and I drew some speed goat tags. We found a spot where they were coming out of private on to public land to feed. Opening morning we showed up 2 hours before light and hiked in and got set up (about 3 miles in) and from our ridge we could see the road...
I have a superlite in a .308 as well, mine really loves the Hornady 178gr ELDXs. It has done well on deer for me and the same bullet in a .300 mag has preformed well on elk for me.
In terms of a factory gun I would have to say the new Marlins are knocking it out of the park. Henry has fallen off in the last couple years with quality. If you are on a tighter budget the Rossi is a good option, just be prepared it may have trouble with .38s and you may have to tinker with...

I have had very good luck with the 178 GR ELDX bullets out of a .300 mag and .308 win.
With the .300 mag I have taken a hand full of muley deer ranging from 50 yds-200 yds. It has always dropped them in their tracks. My bull last year I shot while he was on the run at about 150 yds the bullet...
A good buddy of mine showed this website about a year ago and have lurked ever since, thought it was time to make an account. I rifle hunt anything I can but particularly enjoy muleys. Also dabble in camping and reloading. Thanks!
