Thank you for the heads up! I have been using People Merino wool socks for the past nine years, you can usually get them for $10 ish a pair. Don't dry them and they will last about 2 years with daily use. I love them, the only socks I buy. I think I will try to get some of these to try too.
I will add to my post by saying that the action smoothness of the Savage is down right terrible. They used the spiral cut bolt body to reduce weight. I changed the bolt body out to a smooth one. I tossed the barreled action into a MDT chassis and use MagPul plastic magazines in it to keep it...
Good day,
Another option is the Savage 110 Carbon Predator in 18" or 22". It has a Proof Research carbon fiber barrel so you can practice more without the shift in impact due to thin barrel heating up after 3 shots, still need to keep the barrel cool though. I have found my new Savage to be...
I agree, 2560 is starting out pretty slow, 18" barrel, 41.5 G H4350 (1.5 G above what Barnes recommends as max) I worked up to it and the velocities were consistently rising, at 42 G I started to see the ejection port marks on the brass so I stopped; never had a heavy bolt lift though. This was...
I shot some tonight, 18" Savage Carbon Fiber, 127 G LRX, 41.5 G H4350, 2.752 COAL, CCI 200, 2561 FPS, group = 1.5". It will shoot American Gunner ammo at .75" pretty easily. I will continue to work on the load.
A lot of it depends on where you are starting, what are your strengths and what are your weaknesses. What is backcountry hunting to you and what does it mean; what is your end goal. Does back country mean 2 miles in, shoot huge bull and try to get it out in as few trips as possible by...
I know this is an old thread but I am interested in if you are still using this load or if you tried RL16. I am in the same boat right now, 18" barrel trying to shoot 127 G LRX as fast as I can accurately and safely.
Good day, I know this is an old thread but I am interested in what you did with the rifle. Shooting ammo that is high on pressure in an ambient of 80° F is dangerous when shooting in the African heat of over 100° F in the sun.
The Barnes LRX 127 G can be troublesome to load. My 280 AI was a pain to load for the LRX bullet as well. Lots of jump and near max load is where it shot on my 280. Still working on my 6.5 CM.
Working with my Mom this weekend to put knee pads in my Prana hiking pants. Best hunting pants for warm weather just don't like crawling for a shot without knee pads.
