Have had a boat in Ketchikan for the last 12 yrs and we wish the south and east side quite a bit. August should be excellent for coho, might be a few pink stragglers in the salt. Kings will be spotty, over by Craig would be the best bet for Kings. Halibut and rockfish will be good about anywhere
Planning a unguided moose hunt out of Iliamna for 2025. Looking for first hand info from folks familiar with the area. I'm looking at a drop camp type hunt with gear supplied by others. Just curious about experiences from other hunters that have done this. Thanks Kirk
I've had one for a little over a year. It works great on tomatoes, onions, peppers and such. I've freeze dried leftovers like chicken and noodles and they've turned out great. I've also had good luck with hamburger, just drain it good. I usually freeze the trays in the freezer before freeze...
I've heard good things about Dalin Hunts and Guiding out of Ketchikan. I don't know what all they offer. A quick search turned up several more in southeast AK. Glacier guides is top notch but spendy
I'm a fan of old lever guns. I shot my Alaskan brown bear with a Win model 1886 50 express caliber loaded with 450 gr barnes original. I've also shot numerous elk, porcupines ,and prairie dogs with the same gun. My son, daughter and I are going moose hunting in a week and he will be shooting...
I'm from north central NE and while I'm probably not interested in a hunt I've had a boat in Ketchikan for 13 yrs. There are some great bears around so be patient. My daughter shot a boone and crockett on Revillagegdo Is. a few years ago. If you have any questions on logistics ask away.
For salmon trolling with flasher and lure/hootchie or cut plug herring should be effective. Mooching with cut plug also works well if there are good numbers around.
Looks like there is some good looking halibut grounds right outside the bay. The 30 fathom areas. There should be pinks and chums in the creeks that time of year, the silvers will be showing up in the salt. For halibut a 14/0-20/0 circle hook with however much weight it takes to hold bottom...
Didn't know where to post this, but I've had a boat around Ketchikan for around 13 yrs but have never been up around Kuiu island or Keku strait. Kinda looking for some local info about currents thru keku strait. Looks like the currents might change direction around Devils Elbow or there...
I finally bought an electric stuffer and I really like it. It's a 30# and I make a lot of brauts and ground jerky. The thing I really like is that one person can operate it.
I finally got a freeze dryer and it's very easy to make your own meals. If you're not planning on storing them for 20 yrs its even easier. I've done a lot of meals with hamburger or sausage in them and just drain the grease off and freeze dry and it's worked well. Whenever I'm making a meal...
I just got my Alaska known shipper number, I put it in my company name and there was no charge, and the gal said that it doesn't have to be renewed like an individual number.
