    Dear Tikka….if you’re listening.

    T2X. An actual short action.

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I would encourage readers not to take this in hard black and white and discount the 108/9ELDM, as it also produces tremendously good wounds and penetrates like crazy

    6ARC Tikka

I will be shooting my GT barrel til it dies so will get at least 1 first-hand data point. Currently at about 300rd so it's got a while to go, I expect to shoot 1 match in the rest of this year and 4 next year - that will take me to around 2000 rd with zero/training rounds.

    6ARC Tikka

Who knows right ? Buschman says dashers still shoot great at 2000 rd but pulling early manages risk - probably important to a top shooter https://precisionrifleblog.com/2023/06/11/austin-buschman-what-the-pros-use-top-shooter-spotlight/

    6ARC Tikka

Correct. In the real world they do the same thing downrange - no real advantage to GT except a bit longer effective range but that depends on barrel length etc, you can make a 22" ARC outperform an 18" GT.

    6ARC Tikka

I considered ARC but went GT because of the ease of using an existing action/bolt with no work, 5 round mags that actually exist, feeding concerns with the ARC (given how much trouble 6BR seems to give). I'd say recoil is splitting hairs, the 6ARC might have a fraction less but I can still...

    6ARC Tikka

The wider release of 6GT ammunition by Hornady makes the ARC less appealing in a bolt action.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I'm at sea level and SAAMI throat so could not get good velocity with the 88 from 223. I don't think it looks anywhere near stable from my barrel so I doubt it would make much difference for me to have another 200fps

    They go sideways from a 1:8" .223

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

This is deer number 21 for the year for me.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

On Saturday I got up at 5am, burned some toast, had a coffee, and climbed a hill. Spotted a chamois from the ridge top and dropped down to have a closer look. Nanny and kid, leave them alone. Had a good hard look at a patch of scrub and eventually located a hind bedded, visible through a small...

143 ELD-X blew up on the shoulder?

Unusual results, insufficient information to draw any conclusions. Doesn't mean much who cares. Plenty of 143s in the world that have done what you'd expect.

6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

Yeah I've seen it talked about on here a lot. I'm just fascinated to see the data if it exists. It matches my experience. Of course experience is not data.

6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

Is there any hard data on this? I am interested to see it.

    The perfect hunting scope.

In NZ the importer won't send things back for repair work - you have to do it yourself and it's a pain to send firearm related optics via courier or post, especially to Japan and back. I heard of someone destroying a March that needed repair and claiming insurance to replace it rather than...

    The perfect hunting scope.

The March F 3-24x42 is actually pretty close to perfect I believe I have experienced good zero retention (tested) in several years of hard field use (my scope has remained on the same zero on the same rifle for several years now. I have not had to reset the turrets. This has been used for...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

    **** yes we need a 105-110 TMK in 6mm
  18. P

    Would you buy this scope?

The OP is approx what I've been asking for since about 2010 No-one has yet made it So yeah I'd be interested

    Which 6mm?

I have a 6mm GT with an 18 inch barrel. With 150 rounds on it I am getting 2800fps with a 108ELDM and a Hodgdon book max load of H4350. Precision is excellent, recoil is mild from an 8lb total setup, and I have killed 6 deer from 90-490 metres satisfactorily in the 3 weeks since I got it.

Does the 223/6mm for everything change when hunt cost $$$

In the sense that it's the rifle that comes out the door every time, for every opportunity regardless of trip cost or rarity. Not in the sense that I'd ever actually pay that much to go hunting.
