    Mountain Goat Books?

"Life on the Rocks" by Bruce Smith is a good read from a biology and life history standpoint. https://www.amazon.com/Life-Rocks-Portrait-American-Mountain/dp/1607322919

How rare is a 200 inch mule deer

My wife's first elk hunt here we saw a bull that topped 380 by a good bit on public but didn't get a shot on him. The next day she had a 325 bull in her scope at 180 yards and was asking if she should hold out for the 380+ bull for her first elk. Short story, the 325 bull came home with us...

How rare is a 200 inch mule deer

Certainly depends on a state by state basis. No surprise that the Montana folks are saying 400" bulls are more common than 200" deer based on our season structures and management/mismanagement practices. Obviously not everything gets entered, but just look at Boone and Crocket entries and you'll...

What do you consider a "chip shot"

Every single qual that takes place for us starts with a cold bore shot at 100 yards, prone and supported yes, but whatever conditions Ma nature gives us weather-wise. Trapezoid target within a face that's approximately 3.25" on top, 2" on bottom, roughly 3" on either side. If the shooter misses...

What do you consider a "chip shot"

I'm not doubting this, as you've seen it and I haven't- but I will say I'm as surprised by this answer as I am by the answers on the upper end of the spectrum. 10" target is damn near big enough to hit first round while bore sighting a rifle at 50 yards. I'm not sure how you have faith in...

What do you consider a "chip shot"

@Formidilosus, you see a lot of shooters across a broad spectrum of skill, experience, equipment etc. "Chip shot" isn't clearly defined enough us all to agree what that looks like in hit rates, so I'm going to go with your metric of first round hits in the chest cavity, and to better define it...

What do you consider a "chip shot"

I'm very confident at 400+ yards, but I don't feel that it's a gimmee either. Gimmee range for me is 300 and in, regardless of conditions. I know I can maintain under 3 minutes with wind, angle, position etc., and put the bullet in the boiler room first shot, every shot. I find it interesting...

    Silencerco Scythe TI review

Got my approval for my Scythe today after 57 days- I wasn't expecting anything until July, so I'm ecstatic.

    Shot Show 2024 Mega Thread

I'm sure this will sell to the competition shooters, LE and Military. There's a lot to like in some of the design elements- If Swaro could jump on the integrated Arca plate so I don't have to worry about trying to tighten my plate down from time to time... and while they're at it, put out a FFP...

New Tikka Rifles Shot Show 2024

Agreed on not needing to replace the stock trigger- but I don't doubt the market for more aftermarket items. Folks like to mess with "good enough" and tinker for the sake of tinkering. As many have already pointed out, a $10 spring gets you an awfully good trigger if the stock one didn't blow...

New Tikka Rifles Shot Show 2024

I see it- rather than an afront of a deity, it's a nod to being an "FNG"

Seeing as you specifically referenced Triggertech... You can cross "Triggers" off your list of reasons to continue to argue a moot point.

    Affordable Tac Tables.

Department store mini cutting board, an Arca Rail, and a t-nuts/hardware got me there. Is it cheap? Yes. Does it work with a good bag? Yes.

    Early season Mule Deer

If you can't get a scouting trip in before the season starts, take your observations during the hunt and apply them as far as what forage they're hitting, aspects, elevation, etc. and you should keep turning up deer.

Trigger control - test your reaction time.

Fun little exercise- averaged .289 over 5 attempts. That said, I certainly would have been "jerking" my trigger if I was shooting it the same way I was going through the exercise. Would seem like a fun exercise for the trap shooters in the room versus the long range shooters.

AZ Coues vs CO Muley vs MT Gen.

As a Montanan that can hunt the general tag, I will tell you that should be your last choice, as I personally prioritize low point AZ and CO tags over anything to do with Deer in Montana. Colorado can produce something special in just about any unit, and Coues hunts are a blast, especially since...

    Sitka Incinerator- worth it?

I've only had the bibs, and sent them off to a friend that did more WT stand hunting than I was ever going to do. The time I wore them was -10 with a decent amount of snow, and I was spot and stalking elk in a weapon restricted area. They were far too warm for even the mild activity I was doing...
