I've taken a couple head shots on whitetails under 100yds with great success. I think people that oppose it are concerned with blowing off a bottom jaw and the animal suffering.
Swap the buffer and spring from the DD lower and see if you still have the problem. The try different combinations of buffer and spring to see which is the problem.
Sounds like most here are of the opinion that you shouldn't have a round in the chamber. I assumed that meant all firearms since the topic is safety.
