I'm in the same boat. Recently got a 300 WSM Tikka T3x and had the barrel chopped down to 19in (couldn't decide 18 or 20) for a suppressor. From running ballistic calculators, I think I would be able to take down elk out to about 600 yards, but then again that's probably past my ethical hunting...
I just had my Tikka 300 WSM cut down to 19" (couldn't decide between 18 or 20). I'm running a Hyperion K can. Perhaps I should have shot it before getting it chopped. I still haven't shot it yet, but I guess I won't know if my accuracy degrades with the chopping down and the suppressor.
I hunt with the same rifle. I've taken 2 cow elk and a mule deer buck with it. The farthest shot was on the buck at 350 yards. I was sitting against a rock and shooting off a tripod. I'm probably an average shooter at best, but I think 400 is getting to about the max range for the gun...
Amazing timing on this article. Thanks for all the tips.
For those not wanting to buy all the tools for a one time barrel swap, there is another thread where guys are “renting” their tools to do this.

Unreal generosity fellas.
I’m in still trying to figure out which way I want to go with my build, but I’m in Idaho Falls and will likely be hitting you up.
