I use an inReach Explorer+ paired with the EarthMate app for the reasons mentioned, especially the texting/update functions for non emergency comms. I also agree it’s a matter of time before phones have that added.

Left LE and WA State (getting a little hostile toward lawful gun owners) and moved to the Bitterroot. I do a little bird and predator hunting, looking to learn and expand. Still trying to remember the local pronunciation for coyote (it’s kaiyoat… ICYW). Give myself away as nonnative all the time.
Eurooptic has good pricing if you qualify for their MIL / LE pricing, but Expertvoice has an even better price. Downside to EV is they're often out of stock (like now). I've purchased from both. In my limited experience, Eurooptic seems to have better customer service.
