first rifle i bought for hunting deer, elk, bear, antelope as someone who is a novice with rifles in general is a ruger american go wild edition. came with factory muzzle brake and shoots half inch groups at 100yds. buy a 7mm or any .30 cal and call it good.
just placed my first cam in blacktail/roosevelt country a few days ago.. the suspense is killing me!
interested in seeing how true it is that big mature bucks dont typically follow well traveled game trails and are more off to the side
i think this is exactly what i have learned this year and as a very green hunter its a good lesson to keep in my pocket. most of the deer i know of killed for my group of friends were the same 4-5 day stretch as well. seems like when pre rut activity pops in your hunt area its a good few days to...
i noticed the same. out scouting for elk and i just drive back roads a lot to see local deer on private and what theyre doing. the evening i shot my buck until a couple days after halloween i was seeing bucks and does out and about. its been a ghost town the last week or so
2nd year blacktail hunter here- I glass cuts as my primary hunting method.
Some days I glass all day and don’t see deer following a day I see several in a single cut. They can be tough.
Be patient and very thorough. Pick an area maybe you can glass multiple cuts/ open hillsides from one...
7PRC 175gr eldx factory ammo.i picked one gun to hunt both roosevelts and blacktails with when i made my purchase last year. almost half inch groups at 100yds and a clean ethical kill on my first buck thus far
length of season and being able to hike away from crowds very much factors into why i have enjoyed it so far.
i hunted west cascade for elk last year which was out of my element (my first season as well) this year will be my first on the coast. interested to see exactly how packed it is...
this is true. more so than i thought it would be. i thought the Roosevelt hunting would be my hyper focus area but i absolutely love chasing blacktails so far. cant wait for more!
