    mil dot question(s)

I’m also shooting normally at 700 ft in elevation. Big difference to the mountains.

    mil dot question(s)

This is more real than I expected. Just hunted at 11k-13.5k elevation in CO and my dope sheet wasn’t even usable. Switched to the Hornady ballistics app to account for the elevation variable, pressure, etc. the effect was drastic.

    mil dot question(s)

    This is relatively close and good to have an idea. It’s quite a bit off from where I’m at a 100Y 0. But everyone should have their own dope sheet. 100y-0 200y- .5 300y- 1 400y - 1.5 500y - 2.25 600y - 3.5 800y - 5.5 (my turret allows for full adjust. But I usually just turn 3 and hold 2.5) I...

    mil dot question(s)

Yes, that is precisely what I do. I’m no pro, but it works for me. I will say this, I like mil dot and have a trijicon . Accupoint in Mils. But if I could go back I would have gotten an MOA scope. Reason being, no one i hunt with uses Mils. So they are giving me MOAs and then in the field you...

    GMU ** & ***

Man, I messed up in my initial post but never mentioned a unit again past that. It was someone else.

    GMU ** & ***

You right, not 100% necessary, but absolutely 100% useful. I mean the target is obviously to get in to as good of a position as possible and never make an unethical shot. I don’t really see 750 as a super long distance to be honest, but to each their own. 600 is a comfortable shot for me. I was...

    GMU ** & ***

Agreed. I mean I’m from Georgia so the hunting, even in the “mountains” is much different. It took me about 3 days to really get my red blood cell count up (we were camped at 11,500). But once I got my pace I was good. If you want to get after them you have to be ready for the suck, no doubt...

    GMU ** & ***

Noted and understood. Thanks. I have a very limited scope because I have only hunted in this location which was some of the most aggressive sawtooth mountains in Colorado. Absolutely be 12,000 feet there are no woods. So my point is people probably hunt them different in different locations but...

    GMU ** & ***

Howdy Fellas, Over the last 6 months I’ve been reading a lot of discussions getting ready for my first Colorado elk hunt to GMU **&***. I got a bit disheartened that I read folks saying those units were shot up. However after 1st rifle I’m happy to say there are plenty of elk. I quickly realized...

When you have lost an animal, what do you believe was the cause?

For me it has always been either shot placement or ballistics. Everyone knows shot placement, but I have learned that my shot placement changes depending on distance and bullet speed.
