@Cascade_Sherpa Not sure if I understand the question right, but the nammatj 3 and the nammatj3 GT share the same inner tent, so if you have a nammatj 3 GT outer, you could just clip this one's inner to it (and have a spare non GT outer). The outer tent is all one piece. The vestibule is still...
Hey All,
I've been lurking RockSlide for years now for advice on gear, etc. I actually have something for sale so I figured it was time to make an account :)
As the title says, I have a Hilleberg Nammatj 3 in (dark) green for sale. I am the original owner (bought it 2 yrs ago from Moosejaw)...
I would say it's dependent on the type of hunt. Are you going 3-4 miles into the wilderness and setting up camp? or are you going 12+ miles into the backcountry? Size and weight are ALWAYS important, but in certain scenarios they become critical.
I've never been in a situation where I wished I...
I only wear synthetic underwear. I just get the 32 degree stuff costco has on sale. IMO merino is not a requirement for underwear, although I'm a tall skinny dude who doesn't sweat much. YMMV. That's not to say I don't love my merino base layer :)
A light 4-6 person backpacking tent is not easy to find.. There are however a decent number of "3" person tents out there, that are basically roomy 2 person tents. One of those could easy fit your wife and kids. And you would bring a solo tent. Or you could get 2x 2 person tents and you and your...
Another vote for the Katadyn Befree. I've read the bags can get leaky after sometime, and the solution seems to be the HydraPak pouches that have the same thread.
I used to carry some iodine tablets for emergencies, but iodine is ridiculously difficult to "contain" lol. It always finds its way...
I've been reading that they are still noisy; even in the new NXT series. I had an older gen xtherm and I returned it because of that. I just mentioned this in another thread, but I've had much better luck with Exped. The ultra 7R has an r value of over 7, and its pretty thick and comfortable...
Agree with @Rob5589 on the Exped Ultra 5. I have a long/wide one and its awesome. No noise and pretty warm. I do like to put a Therma Rest Z Lite Sol (foam pad) underneath when it gets colder and/or I want extra comfort and insulation. Works pretty good. I'm also a side sleeper and have never...
Rain gear for sure. REI just had a pretty decent sale, they will probably have more soon (July 4th maybe?). If not look at name brand outlet stores. I've never had any luck with GoreTex knockoffs some brands produce in house that is supposed to be "just as good". The one exception is the fabric...
The sidearm would have to be in a chest holster for sure, if you decide you need one. Easy access and won't interfere with other gear. I would still take a can of bear spray though...
Keep in mind with all Leica's, the built in RF only gives solutions out to 800 yrds (bino alone)/ 1000 yrds (with Leica app). Anything beyond that you need to pair it with a Kestrel elite.
Hilleberg Niak or Rogen. Rogen is slightly bigger with 1 extra vestibule. Niak is slightly smaller but lighter. If you are not going with your SO, I'd want the Rogen. If you don't mind being close, Niak.
For what it's worth, I have a Kodiak 0 and Even when it torches condensation on tent walls all night, I've never gotten the down wet. And the small amount of wetness dries out fast.
