Let's help some guys/gals get their first archery elk!

Hi all, Fng posting live from the field. I've been in elk almost everyday and have called in 5 bulls. Had one at 10 yards hang up behind a tree quartering to while I was drawn, no shot, others didn't walk into my shooting lanes. Like this morning, I was on the upper third of a ridge and had...

    Electric dirt bikes?

Yes the Sur Ron light bee. It gets up hills like a champ, and really forgiving on the technical stuff, like rocky, rooted forest roads

    Electric dirt bikes?

I use my sur ton for fun and hunting. I also have a heavy CAB falcon, it's faster, has more range and loading capacity, but it's almost 200lbs, which makes it a pain to load/unload and also go up anything steep or technical. Since there's no clutch, the torque is instant so for going up steep...

How do you handle windy days?

Hunt. I went out in a blizzard during my rifle hunt last year. Wind was blowing from the north, and the elk i found, seeked refuge on an open south facing slope. Because it was windy and snowing, my noise and visibility were a lot less, so i was able to get close enough for a shot in the open.

    Bivy vs tent.

Gossamer The One, uses your trekking poles to setup, gives you enough room to sit up inside, has a vestibule. Super light and small. (not my pic)

Light weight base camp tent...fast setup?

+1 if you need all that space this is the way to go, i ran one for 15 days in the field last year. This year, I've got a faster setup, but I'm going solo. I took my freestanding Big Agnes copper spur UL2, put my pad, sleeping bag, pillow in there, rolled it up, and use it as a bed roll. I just...

What hunting rig are you running/how do you use it

For the jeep guys, since we don't have much cargo space, this year I'm going to run this universal spare tire rack: https://www.speedflate.com/shop/p/ragnarack I'll be able to carry 2 3gallon rotopax, and my recovery gear and tire inflator in the basket. Will save a bunch of room inside and...

    Truck Camping

Last year I hunted 15 days out of my truck. I brought some fresh meals and meals that I didn't have to refrigerate. For fresh meals I used food saver sous vide bags, you could use freezer ziplock as well, and put things like chilli, pasta or lasagna dishes, taco meat, etc then I boil a bag for...

    Bino harness for sig zulu6

I had the fhf pro medium size and the wouldn't fit, went with the fhf fob large, fit perfect, also I like the forward opening with the magnet to keep it open, less noise and movement when I'm glassing on and off like during stalks.

What hunting rig are you running/how do you use it

After the 37s, 1 ton axles (dynatrac 60's) and steel bumpers the stock V6 had no balls at all, it was borderline unsafe on mountain passes, I couldn't go faster than 65 lol I got the Chevy LT1 swap done by motech in Vegas they've done over a thousand jeep swaps, they did a great job and quick...

    Zone 2 Training

I'm also new to this idea and integrated zone 2 in my training routine this year. Last year, I did 2-3x a week of hiking with a heavy pack (65#) up a really steep hill and down for 1 mile (zone 3-4). The other 3x a week I did a minimalist lifting routine which was just squat, bench, row...

Kawasaki is out - Looking at Yamaha Side by Side

I have the x4 xtr and love it, it's the best SxS for the money. I use it on the ranch for hauling and towing as well, the back seats slide up providing a nice bed for gear and dead animals. It even fits in a my f250's truck bed, but make sure you get tailgate supports. And it fits easily in my...

    Your gear upgrades/changes/additions for 2024

Upgraded from mystery ranch sawtooth 80 to exo k4. Hauling out my bull last year using the MR pack was such a pain, it has no lumbar support and narrow belt, and was constantly sliding down my hips and required readjusting. I also didn't realize how noisy it was until I started wearing my k4...

    Kawaski Teryx 4 UTV

Look into the Yamaha Wolverine x4, fits 4, back converts to a bed, so when you're hunting solo or with one guy, you can have a ton more space back there. It's also more powerful than the Teryx. I use my Wolverine for ranch work as well, hauling stuff and towing.
