.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I have not shot many that far with the 30-06. One elk further, a couple deer around 350, a couple more around 300. But those are similar impact velocities to the 77tmk at 400. The 180 Core lokt is an external ballistic turd, but a terminal ballistic champ. So the fact that I am comparing...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Velocity at the muzzle is just over 2800 fps. 3,000 ft elevation and 65 degrees out. I should still have over 2000 fps impact velocity. To be clear, I'm not disappointed in the performance.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

First deer with the RSS. 77TMK of course. 416 yards. Hit a litter farther back than I like but still got the lungs. He traveled downhill and toward me about 30 yards then stopped. The next bullet went through his spine and then it was over. Both bullets passed through, but the spine shot...

Equipment versus practice posts and Rifle practice/shooting

I did this challenge for the first time yesterday with my rokslide special. I shot a 12/20 if we are being generous. I was shooting PMC bronze 55gn fmj, which groups over 2moa 10 shot groups. I really struggled with sitting supported. I didn't have shooting sticks with me and my back is...

    SWFA SS Optical Quality

When I recieved my first swfa 6x in the mail, I was very unimpressed by holding it with my hands and looking through it. After I mounted it up and took it out shooting, it really grew on me and I have come to love it. The glass is fine, and the eye box is fine, so I'm not sure why it didn't...

    Tikka 223 magazine feeding issues

I know this is an older thread but I thought I would share my experience. I have a factory 4 round and a 6 round for my tikka 223. Both magazines had consistent failures to feed. I noticed that on both magazines there was a sliver of plastic flashing just inside the feed lips. This would...

Rockslide Special doesn’t like my ammo

Some rifles just don't like certain bullets. That said, most of the time, if a rifle won't shoot sierra matchking bullets loaded properly, then something is wrong with the rifle or scope.

    123 eld-m in 6.5 Creedmoor

Thanks. Do you happen to know what muzzle velocities you were getting?

    123 eld-m in 6.5 Creedmoor

Has anyone here tried the Hornady 123 eld-m in 6.5 creedmoor? Any results on game? Any load recommendations? Just looking at the numbers on paper, it seems like this combo will perform similar to a 6mm creedmoor. Light recoil, G1 BC around .5, and about 3000 fps muzzle velocity. Looks...

PSA 18 inch 6.5 grendel accuracy issues

I just remembered something. On my PSA, the handguard was extremely narrow. It barely had any clearance around the gas block. Every time the gun fired, the gas block would bounce off the handguard. To check yours, grab the muzzle end of the barrel and the handguard and see how difficult it...

PSA 18 inch 6.5 grendel accuracy issues

I bought a psa 18" grendel upper a few years ago. I first took it to the range with hornady custom 123gn sst. It was shooting 6" groups at 100 yards. I was about to send it back, but then I tried some 100 grain wolf steel case and it put 5 shots into a 1.5 inch group. Then I bought some...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

ABC bullet on the left, Sierra on the right. I just used a file to section the front half. Sorry I don't have great pictures, but in person they appear to be identical.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I just received my 77 grain "tipped practice bullets" from creedmoor sports. 3 Sierra 77tmk on the top, American bullet company bullets are the 3 on the bottom. I cannot discern any difference whatsoever.

    Norma golden target bullets?

On the Norma website, it says the 143 golden target is designed to expand if you are looking at the 6.5 PRC ammo. When I looked at the 6.5 creedmoor ammo with the same bullet, I didn't see anything about expansion or hunting. So maybe it only expands at high impact velocities?

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered some and will compare them with my 77tmk bullets and report back.
