    MT unlimited sheep

You gotta go! It was an amazing trip. Saw not a single sheep, mind you haha. Take less is my only real advice. We had very mild weather so can't say that my gear was truly stress tested though. I used lots of the common gear - seek tipi, SG pack, Schnees boots, MSR Windburner - and it all worked...

Spartan Ascent Tripod / Trekking Poles System?

I own the Ascent and really like it. It's a jack of all trades, master of none though. Trekking poles work well as poles, easy to put back together when I need to glass, head is good (not perfect) for glassing and shooting, not too heavy for all it packs in. Only minor drawback I've found is if...

    Unlimited Hunt Gear Help

For the record, I'm 12 months out from new ACL and meniscus repair so happy to chat about my training plan (and if it pans out!) when the time comes as well. Good luck with your recovery.

    MT unlimited sheep

I'll be heading in for my first taste of the Unlimiteds this year. Probably doing 10-20 days scouting throughout the spring/summer (as much for terrain/fitness/gear as animals) then 10-15 days for the hunt in September. I'll be sticking with the spray over the 10mm so wish me luck!

    Unlimited Hunt Gear Help

I'm doing my first Unlimited hunt this year and will be scouting and testing gear from June to September. If you check back in a couple months I'd be happy to share my opinions on shelters. I'll be testing some freestanding tents and a couple tipi/stove options. My pre-trip intuition says that...

Freshman Class of 2023- who is in it?

My first year as well. Headed into the Beartooths in MT. No expectations other than an adventure and a challenge! Feeling pretty dialed on gear and doing lots of training and map work now. Looking forward to some scouting trips once the snow stops pummeling us.

Check out National Alliance for Mental Health (NAMI) group in your area. They have lots of resources. Family friend has been struggling with similar for years and NAMI has been an amazing lifeline for his family. Once out of the immediate emergency, don't forget that family and caregivers need...

    Ultralight hunting rifle

Suppressors are well worth the weight and cost addition, even to a lightweight build imo

    Cold weather gloves

I do down mittens with wool glove liners as others have mentioned. That keeps me warm stationary down to about -15.

    Pack weight for broke newbie

While there are important differences to backpack hunting vs backpack camping, there is lots to learn from the ultralight backpacking community. Youtube is a great resource for budget options to lightweight. And don't forget to train! Dropping weight and increasing strength are the cheapest...
