I shot a few whitetail with the ELD-X out of my 7mm. All of them dropped on the spot. My only concern was all three bullets were recovered but in several pieces and left quite the mess. They obviously dump a ton of energy into the animal and cause a lot of trauma. They were also very accurate...
This fall will be Colorado and honestly I hope not to shoot that far, but I have practiced at that range and know I can do it. A friend that I’m going with said that he had opportunities at that range prior years hunting this area. I’ve killed deer at ~350 yards but only paper beyond that. I...
I am primarily a bow hunter which is why I’m a little out of touch on some of this rifle/ammo stuff. This fall will be my first elk hunt with an otc tag so I figured rifle made the most sense.
It’s been interesting to see peoples opinions on lead bullets vs copper bullets. I’ve had reputable...
Another bullet I’ve used out of factory loads is the 155 grain Federal Terminal Ascent with good luck on deer. Nobody has the bullets available for reloading though. Any word on if Federal will start offering them for reloading?
I have no doubt that they work great but personally I would prefer a “tougher” bullet. I have killed a few whitetails with the eld-m out of my 6.5 cm and they worked great.
500-600 yards would likely be my max unless I can get comfortable past that. But i honestly don’t want to shoot farther than that unless it’s a wounded animal.
Looking for advice/opinions on bullet selection for elk, out of my Bergara B-14 Wilderness Ridge 7mm rem mag. Currently my #1 option is 160 grain Accubond because I know it shoots well out of my gun, and from my understanding, is a good bullet for elk. The twist rate on this rifle is 1:9.5. True...
I haven’t heard anything but haven’t really been looking lately. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t but wasn’t expecting it to take this long. Anyone out there have recommendations for other factory rifles in this caliber?
I can’t argue that at my intended hunting ranges it won’t matter between the two but I like the idea of heavier bullets and what should be better accuracy/precision right? This is more of a concern for elk hunting. Not worried about whitetails.
Here’s another idea… as much as I want a Tikka, I also have a Bergara B-14 Wilderness Ridge in 7mm rem mag that I was going to sell to my brother but maybe I won’t. The two options are I cut the barrel down from 24” (20”?) because the gun feels too long with a suppressor on it. Or, get a new...
Honestly a 7 PRC is probably overkill for my intended purposes. I don’t plan to shoot more than 500-600 yards out west but most of my hunting is whitetails in Wisconsin where my shots range 20-350 yards. Probably 150-200 most of the time. I know just about any caliber will do the job but I would...
What other rifles chambered in 7 prc would you recommend? Or do you think Tikka is the way to go, perhaps in a different caliber? I’m looking up to $1200 or so.
