Western hunting usually includes some large animals like elk. It also requires shooting at longer distances. Shot placement is key, but sometimes the perfect shot is not always made. I think a .300 wm is a great option or go with .300 wsm for something a little more compact.

HELENA – Montana’s 2022 wolf regulations passed by the Fish and Wildlife Commission in August will go back in effect immediately after a court ruling in a lawsuit against Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks...
Soak them in water with 6 cups of baking soda for half a day. Then put them in the washer with a small amount of detergent and add 4 cups of baking soda for a pre-rinse.
I've worn schnees pac boots for years. Mostly for ranch work and I used to wear them for hunting. I switched to schnee's/kenetrek mountain boot for hunting and I really like this option. I've got some old 13" hunter pacs and the outfitter pull-ons. The hunter pacs have decent traction for...
Schnee's is a top notch company with great boots and customer service. I'd reccomend the beartooth or timberline boot. For Sept/Oct I'd go with the uninsullated option or 200g.
I have a .300 win mag HCLR with the regular stock. It's great hunting rifle, very accurate, smooth action, etc. Only thing I'd change is upgrading to the Mcmillan stock.
I'd recommend a browning xbolt for a hunting rifle. The speed model should be close to that 6.5 lb mark. They have lots of other options in the xbolt line.
Nosler Trophy Grade 180gr Accubonds shoot well out of my Browning Xbolt HCLR. This combo has killed a pile of elk. Typically at a range of 300 to 450 yds. One elk taken at 30 yds. A few over 750 yds. I'd still go with what your rifle shoots the best. There is alot of good factory...
I've been shooting Nosler factory ammo as I don't reload. I've had good success on elk with Nosler 180gr Accbnd's out of my Browning Xbolt HCLR .300 win mag. I haven't been able to find this 180gr Accbnd ammo for almost two years and I'm going to switch to something else. The 180 Accbnd has...
