Well, we kind of set ourselves up in an area where they are usually slowing down. When I did drives last year with the 350 Legend, most of them had slowed down to walks or even completely stopped at that point. At least the ends I took a shot at, anyway.
Just wanted to come back to this. I am now through 2 seasons with my 350 Legend, and I love this thing. It's been a fantastic weapon.
However, I think I am now going to venture out a bit and get a shotgun. We want to do some deer drives, and I am also interested in doing some other kinds of...
Might as well ask it in here, but I would like to get a shotgun for when we do deer drives. Feel like that'll be a little better to use than a 350 Legend. I don't need anything special and don't want to break the bank, so what would be a good starter shotgun for that purpose?
350 Legend Savage Axis II. Used it for the second time this year - love it. Last year I got three deer (two does and my first buck), and this year I got a doe with it over the weekend.
I hunt on some decent public land in Illinois, but it's kind of a big pain in the ass to get access to spots. Thankfully I know some people who help with that.
Congrats on finding the buck. I had two buddies this year that had some pretty crazy deflections on their shots when it hit a rib, so who am I to rule anything out. Just glad you found him in the end, and hopefully there will be lessons learned for future hunts. It sucks, but we make mistakes...
While the OP needs to just admit they made a bad shot, this also seems a bit excessive as well. He just made a bad shot. It has literally happened to everyone if they've been hunting long enough.
This is the vest I use.

And these are the heated socks I use.

I’m sure there is some more pricey stuff I could get that would work even...
I have one of these cheaper ones as well, and I love it. Actually just purchased a TideWe jacket/base layer because I like the vest so much.
I also have heated socks that have been a game changer, because my feet are easily what gets the coldest. I don’t keep them on all the time. But what I...
Others have said it, but all depends on the situation. Here on public land in a climber using a 350, I don’t think I’d feel too comfortable over 150. Even that might be pushing it. Anything 100 or less is ideal. And honestly most of the set ups we have around here, it’s hard to get much further...
Has it been a weird year for anyone else in the Midwest? I feel like the movement was horrible this year. I still filled my tags, but man was it slow at times. I like to watch Bill Winke, and him (along with many of the people in his comments) seem to have had similar experiences this year...
Just got through my first season with this, and so glad I made the choice. Got myself an awesome buck and two doe. Dropped the two does almost right away. Buck walked off a bit (actually died in the river), but I was able to track the blood and find where it went before retrieving it.
With the...
SCENARIO:
Tomorrow is a high of 55 degrees.
When I go out to hunt - around 6 am to 11 am or so - the temps will be increasing from about 40 degree to 50 degrees. It'll get to 55 a little later in the day.
If I were to shoot a deer and unable to get it out right away, roughly how long until...
So I am curious what people think about a couple things regarding mobile tree stands.
I currently have a couple year old Summit climbing tree stand. I hunt on public land and have to get down and climb up for every single hunt. It's a good stand. Comfortable, still in good shape.
However...
