Update on our hunt...won't be posting locations or units, so pls dont ask...it was a great time to say the least. Found deer every day, bucks seemed to be rutting hard. Lots of cool country. Saw some smaller bucks, and found some bigger. Had a 4x4 with eye guards at 300yds our 2nd day. Just...
Well, heres an update on the hunt plan for this fall. We ended up drawing Montana general deer and both pleased with that outcome! Planning to be there for a week of hunting and then back in time for Thanksgiving dinner with the families. If nothing else, we will have some great stories to share...
Just received the email for the modified season proposals...I figured it was coming. I've only looked at the Deer proposals, havent read the elk, antelope etc...But looks like some tag cuts in certain areas and going to Antlered only in some places
Well that certainly boosts my confidence level for sure! We certainly dont have the amount of unpaved roads here in the Northeast as you fellers have in the midwest. Regardless of where we go, ill be sure to have a good set of chains!
Thanks everyone I appreciate the comments! Neither of us are very confident in our archery skills, however a spot and stalk hunt with a bow seems like a fun idea! My biggest concern with 3rd season otc is navigating snow conditions in a truck. Im used to snow, but ive been on snow covered dirt...
So myself and a small group of fellers have draw strategies together for several states/species but this year was a no-go for everyone. Meanwhile im spending all of this past fall and winter trying to find someone thats willing to travel and hunt DIY...everyone wants to do it, till its time to...
Put in this year, group/party app with my cousin for deer combo... Im not holding my breath as our combined pp's put us at 1.5 and im pretty sure that will put us in no mans land for pulling a tag. Not sure what route we will go if we dont draw...Might try to get lucky on a leftover somewhere...
Not worth 10 points? Personally id rather suck start a shotgun than burn 10 points only to eat tag soup cuz I passed on bullet worthy bucks but thats just me...To each their own, but id piss myself while $h*tt*ng my pants as I fingered my belly button crying like a baby if I shot that thing...
I agree with this setup, especially for earlier season and post rut when bucks are still focused on food source. This scenario as you said, gives you options for wind direction...For a rut hunt, personally I would disregard the food sources and focus on pinch points. And from what I can see...
First time trip to Nebraska. Hunted the Pine Ridge region and man what an awesome experience. Took me a while to finally put up this post but better late than never right? I will say, for anyone looking for a Nebraska hunt, the rumors of less birds than the state advertises and unreal hunting...
Quick follow up to my post, heres a pic from an AR shoot week before CO started...we were in what they considered "low" snow goose numbers but they were 98% juvies. STUPID STUPID BIRDS! Sometimes less is more! Ill take smaller concentrations of dumb birds over large concentrations of breeding...
Start calling outfitters, and find the one that seems the most transparent. If all they wanna tell you is they make piles every single day, look elsewhere. Ive hunted arkansas for ducks, dark geese, and light geese. Theres good days and bad, and your not slaughtering every day, even on a good...
I appreciate that offer! When the time comes I will certainly reach out, mainly for weather and snowline reports! And ill gladly extend to you the same offer! If you ever decide to travel to the northeast ill gladly point you in a good direction! Ive hunted several states in the northeast for...
Hunter Dan, if you dont mind me asking, what elevation did you have to hit to find your birds? We are considering a turkey hunt in colorado in the next few years. We try to hit a new state/area every year for a turkey. Did PA & WV last yr, hitting NE this year...WY, SD, KS, and CO are on my list...
