    Anchorage Outdoor Shooting Range

Thanks for the recommendations @AKBorn and @3Esski . I heard a few things about these ranges but wanted to check here on Rokslide. Really appreciate it and I'll check them out before I head out to the mountains. Good luck on your hunts this year!

What non-hunting podcasts do you listen to?

Tons of great recommendations here. I'll add two podcasts I like for investing and one for politics/culture. - Michael Berry Show - Conservative politics but he also spends a lot of time on entrepreneurship, music, food, culture, etc that keeps the show entertaining and not depressing like a...

    Anchorage Outdoor Shooting Range

Heading up to Alaska later this week ahead of my first Dall sheep hunt! Before I head into the mountains, I want to check my gun on paper after the long plane ride at an outdoor range in the Anchorage area. I'm guessing the Rokslide community will have some good recommendations. Thanks in...

    Reminder: Mountains will kill you

A Rockslide on Rokslide! Be careful out there and a good story to keep in mind as we’re going across the mountain scree with heavy packs.

    Hunters Element?

If anyone is interested I bought a pair of Hunters Element rain pants at Central Otago in NZ that were used on a stag and tahr hunt. I’ve got my other rain gear back home so I really don’t need these also. I’ve been thinking about posting on classifieds. The pants worked well during rainy...

Colorado hotel resort within 2.5 hours of Denver.

We hosted our wedding welcome party at The Hythe in Vail last July. The staff were excellent and everyone staying there really enjoyed the hotel. The short walk into the village and restaurants would be great for anniversary dinner. If you want a night in the mountains, head up to the...

Screenshots of thinhorns through a spotting scope?

Thanks for starting this thread Carson and to those posting pictures. I’ll also be on my first dall hunt in August and appreciate the opportunity to “practice” reviewing scope pics of legal vs non-legal rams here.

    Canada gun question

Also for whatever it’s worth, I fly into both airports fairly frequently for work and an occasional hunting trip. Edmonton does seem to be more hunter-friendly but the trade off is that it doesn’t have as many direct flights to USA. If you’re going back to Yukon for hunting I’m sure you can...

    Canada gun question

I flew into Edmonton last fall for a Sask goose hunt with my shotgun with no issues. I also had boxes of ammo in the same case. Be sure to use non-TSA locks. The only issue I encountered was at boarding going back home (out of Calgary instead of Edmonton). At check in the agent forgot to...

Birkhühner in den Alpen! The worlds second most expensive chicken dinner.

Sounds like a great time in the mountains especially with the extra Alps culture added to the hunting experience. My wife and I hiked next door through Triglav National Park in Slovenia last fall where we saw a ton of Ibex and Chamois. After hiking through those mountains and seeing those...

    Houston area Western Hunters

Yes it is! I rucked my loaded pack 6 miles around the woods of Memorial Park yesterday as part of trying to get ready for Alaska sheep in a couple months. What we don’t have in elevation we more than make up for in mosquitoes and heat! I found both yesterday in excess.

    Snake bite

Also mentioned on another thread but there should probably be more discussion on Rokslide regarding hunting in arid areas and first aid for rattlesnakes especially if hunting solo or a long ways from a hospital.

    Snake bite

In Texas where we have tons of them, the thinking is that rattlers aren’t rattling because of the massive hog population. Apparently the hogs eat them so they learned to stay quiet. There’s a lot of debate on how true this is but I’d love to hear biologists thoughts on this theory.

    Buying Outdoor industry companies?

Having been on both side of PE buying/selling and currently working for a PE portfolio company, it's interesting to read the comments being shared here. Not that much different from what I've read here on hunting industry and what I've noticed in my own industry. Also it's really interesting...

    Country music

Anyone a Charlie Crockett fan? I’m from Texas where Charlie also hails but got to see him play this week while on a work trip up to Calgary. He brought the old school, steel guitar Texas cool sound up to Canada and the sold out crowd definitely seemed to enjoy the show!

    Tricer Drew Intro

Glad to hear your boy is recovering! We’ve got those rattlers all over the granite rock terrain at our ranch in Texas and I worry about one hitting my dad when he’s out there working by himself. Rattlers are serious business (especially in the springtime) and probably something that should be...

Question for those that have taken shots on Dall’s

There is some great feedback here and I’m glad @j3butch asked the question to start the thread. I do have a Spartan tripod so not nearly as heavy as some other bipod options so I’ll have to think some more about benefits vs weight. Overall my biggest takeaway is the need to get out to the...

Question for those that have taken shots on Dall’s

Same boat here with my first Dall hunt coming up in August in AK... Since there appears to be a lot of prone shooting, would you bring a bipod? I've been debating bringing mine and adding extra weight or leaving at home and just shooting off the pack. I see a mix of pictures posted here with...
