I use straw with a few wood chips in the winter, both in my aluminum dog box and the outside dog houses. Wood chips help absorb any moisture, straw keeps them warm.
I am in the same boat as you, run the heck out of them when you can and go to tractor supply and buy a rubber cattle mat and cut it to fit in the crate. Only thing I have found to work for my gsp and pointers, and relatively cheap
Previously fed PPP 30/20, switched a year and a half ago to Victor 30/20 teal bag, love it. Cant go wrong with PPP, Victor, or Inukshuk. PPP is a little expensive for my taste, and you have to order Inukshuk by the pallet
Spare gps/e collar parts! I somehow managed to loose the antenna off my astro 430 handheld while grouse hunting, luckily had a spare in the truck. Also the collar antenna part as well, and a small set of screw drivers to replace! Other than that saline eye wash for washing out seeds from dogs...
Garmin is hard to beat, any of them will work. They make a two in one e collar and gps tracker that may interest you as well, I highly recommend it for any dog that may be off leash. Never know what will happen, and it is peace of mind

I know you are looking for a griff, but there is a German Wirehair Pointer breeder in Indiana, Ghostpoint Wirehairs. He has some stellar dogs, he trials and hunts wild birds. Breeders name is Eric Forrester, he has a youtube channel where you can see his dogs as well
Fed Pro Plan 30/20 for 5 years to my male gsp, picked up a pointer puppy that seems to be shedding more than necessary, picked up some victor 30/20 to try out and see if it helps
