Has anyone come up with any practical ways to limit the elevation turret turning? Really the only thing holding me back is the lack of a locking turret. It’s going on a rifle that’s going to be carried into the backcountry on a pack.
Thank you, that hands on experience means a lot. I've never handled anything made by Trijicon, but I own a Maven RS2 that I'm happy with albeit have not pushed it yet, and a pair of 15x B5 binos that I adore. Everyone who looks through them is shocked, and many have never even heard of Maven...
Any reason to talk me out of the Maven and into either the NX8 2.5-20 or the Tenmile 3-18? On paper the Tenmile is pretty similar to the Maven; both FFP, both have an acceptable (to me) illuminated reticle, and neither have locking elevation turrets. The NX8 keeps standing out to me, albeit...
Wow that’s wildly disheartening to read. I take it the Maven performed better in a similar test?
I was looking at the 2.5-20. I’m more concerned with a lower low end than I am the high end. I liked the NX8 2.5-20 but it’s a touch too heavy for what I’m trying to do I think. Plus it doesn’t have...
Only hunted with that rifle once so I can’t give you a thorough review of durability. But it sure is a nice scope for its purpose. Won’t ever get dialed so if it holds zero it’s perfect. Granted the BAR it’s on isn’t exactly a precision gun so it will be hard to say exactly where if any the...
I like the mag range on the Maven, a lot more than a 3-9. I’ve been reading enough awful things about Leupold to be turned off for good, less so about the higher end Vortex options.
It’s not that I hate it. To be fair the reticle on the 42mm objective is pretty similar, but on the 50 I don’t...
Seems like the verdict on this scope is pretty positive minus the turrets having a tendency to move? Looking for an optic for a lightweight 308 rifle for whitetails. This scope is about as heavy as I want to go. Other options in the running are the Vortex LHT (don’t like the reticle) or a...
This is so good to know. I was torn on caliber for my first real lightweight hunting build. I was torn between .308 and 6.5PRC or 300WSM. Hoping to have the whole package around 7 pounds. I ended up going .308 and I can go to a larger caliber later. But I’m glad I did .308 for this build.
Wow those are great speeds out of a 2” barrel. My only hangup is that I’ll be shooting factory ammo for the foreseeable future; I’ve got two young kids and a crazy life that doesn’t leave much time to handload even though I’m equipped to do so. In light of that part of me is leaning towards .308...
I’m going to be building a lightweight hunting rifle likely going with .300WSM. Researching barrel length and it seems like the general consensus is somewhere in the 20-22” range? What twist is preferred? Going to be shooting factory ammo for whitetails and black bear.
I am going to be putting a new barrel on a Bergara Premier action that I used as a PRS rifle for a couple of years. It was originally chambered in 6.5 CM so it has a .470” bolt face. Bergara sells different bolt head sizes, so I could go up to .540” if I wanted.
I am in the initial stages of...
