    280 AI - Light & Fast Loads

Whether it's a 280 AI, or any other 7mm, at some point downrange the bullet is going the same speed as any other 7mm is. 400 yd limit is going to open your options to anything in the <140 gr weight. I realize you specified non copper. However... Any copper bullet at the range and weight you...

Reloading pressure sign help? CA 300 wsm

Even if double ejectors show pressure earlier, which I'd need explanation as to why two ejector plunger holes would do that (or are needed, other than marketing...), the primers are cratered with that much of a ridge. Agree with TaperPin, case head expansion is a great tool that guys don't want...

Bigfoot Bushcraft fire starting plugs. As well, the plastic packs that have been mentioned burn good and long.

Velocity doesn't add up 300 wm

If the scope is consistent, which it sounds like it is, it doesn't matter which brand it is. I would look at scope height. Higher or lower than bore centerline will make the kind of difference you're talking about.

    Sanity Check - Reloading Process

I have thought of that as well myself. Typically I use once fired brass for hunting reloads, so could be carbon/powder residue in the case neck contributes as has been mentioned before, but would like a hard and fast explanation for my curiosity.

    Sanity Check - Reloading Process

I can't put a specific timeframe on it, however I see bullet weld with Barnes even after a couple months, I check to see if it's happening. Pressures climb dramatically, obviously. I lube case necks before sizing with graphite powder, as well and still experience it. A trick I read was to seat...

Bullet choice for 280 AI Accubond 160g vs. Hammer Hunter 143g

Don't want to limit what goes in the freezer, more meat is better. I choose copper, antlered or not, less meat loss all around.

    Another WSM thread

Research the length of bullets and start writing down the possibilities that give the OAL you're looking. Seems like a good place to start. What species, what range are you wanting to shoot? Again, back to what I said above, do some research and see what shows up.

30-06 loads/ Hornady BTHP for deer?

I've not been shy about mono's. Superb results and allow hard angle shots. 130 TTSX at top loading manual speed is flat shooting and devastating on the receiving end from pronghorn to elk. At elk hunting elevation it carries 2200 fps out past 520 yds.

    Tent recommendations

With that said, there's two or three tent threads active right now. And an unknown number of them already. Opportunity for tent guys getting together and share some ideas.

30-06 loads/ Hornady BTHP for deer?

You've edited the original post? You were asking about other bullets and hoping to use gold dots for moose. At this point my response doesn't make much sense after the edit. Good luck!

30-06 loads/ Hornady BTHP for deer?

Great cartridge, just don't overthink it. Get some practice bullets of your choice and zero with the hunting bullet before heading to the field.

Cabelas Alaskan Guide (8 person is my experience) is solid, handles wind/snow in spades, At 8300' with a small propane heater, (tent vented with windows/main door) keeps the edge off at 0 deg F in the Colorado high country to where it is easily above freezing in the AM for getting ready for the...

Margin of Error when Calculating Stove Fuel

Thanks for the backstory on that. Sounds like you are fine-tuning what you've already been doing. Dropping body weight a few pounds, getting the cardio and endurance up allows for more comfort when you're in the woods because you're not cutting corners saving weight.

Margin of Error when Calculating Stove Fuel

From 40 years in Colorado and many, many, many trips to higher elevation... water boils at a lower temperature at higher elevation. Just because the water boils (and will appear to come to a boil fairly normally because it boils at a lower temperature), it is NOT as hot as you are used to or...

    Freeze Dried Foods

Mountain house is a pretty good bet, for me any warm meal at the end of a day is gonna give me that "X" factor of feeling good inside going to the tent. For the chili Mac guy at Walmart, I hope it doesn't affect the next morning proceedings right after getting out of the tent like it affects...

Pressure: when is too much and why?

Aside from exceptions, rather than rules, velocity equals pressure. Seems some (many) abosolutely "know" (through their experience, not established sensibility) their rifles are the exceptions much more the rule. Not being harsh, but yes, being harsh. It's ridiculous to chase that last "nth"...

Pressure: when is too much and why?

As an aside, my brother brought a friend from another state with him on our 2nd season elk hunt in Colorado last year. Guy had a 6.5 Creedmoor and hunted a full day in the field in falling snow with an open muzzle. Had been told to tape the muzzle. Next morning, he came out of the tent (5 deg...
