Welcome, I used to live in the boonies near Trinidad, WA. The best advice I can give you is do a lot of early season scouting, and check for the "Hunt by Permission Only" signs. Contact those people as that property will receive much less pressure than public lands.
I'm not familiar with this particular scope, but do have the Razor HD 3-15 on my Weatherby Vanguard. I don't believe the throw lever will.be impeded by your mount height. I wouldn't give up a good cheekweld for something that will probably never rotate and hit the action. I personally set my...
Washington is a beautiful place with lots to offer. But the government there has been chipping away at all our freedom for decades now, and the politicians aren't about to quit. Once you're East of the Cascades it's like a different world. Mostly very Conservative Freedom Loving People that just...
I don't need that much crap anyways. More trouble than it's worth. All I needed was a couple of hundred rounds for my 45-70. I got the text from Carlile yesterday to come pick it up in Anchorage. It took about 7 days from the time it got to their terminal in Tacoma to up here. Cost me $20 and...
The $20 is from Carlile Tacoma Terminal to Anchorage for a small package. Reeds Sports in Minnesota is charging $19.10 for delivery to Tacoma.
I made my order from Reeds last night at 11:35PM and it's already shipped today with no WA sales tax, or exorbitant shipping rates. The best way I've...
Here's a little update
Here's the latest about what's happening. I was going to buy from LG Outdoors, but they gave me a hard time when I protested them charging me Washington sales tax. Besides which they were low on stock and their 45-70 ammo sold out before I could get it straightened out...
I lived in one for five months outside of Kenai, Alaska. I was doing a Safety and Rescue Vessel contract for Conoco-Phillips on the Cook Inlet. Lodging prices are outrageous during the warmer months, and I said screw it and bought a nice tent. Rented a space in a campground and moved in 😆 I had...
I just set up an account with them a couple of days ago. I'm off work tomorrow and will probably be giving it a shot after I make a couple of calls to suppliers since the ammo won't be shipped to my billing address, but the Carlile terminal in Tacoma instead.
Thanks, I think that if you visit up here you'll be hooked. I've visited here for 20 years prior to moving up here 11 years ago. My only regret is not having done it sooner.
I wholeheartedly agree with you on all counts. Three shot groups is all you should need in a hunting rifle. It's that first shot cold bore on a game animal that counts anyway. Unless I'm confident I can make the shot at a reasonable distance, I won't take it.
I lucked out and got 100rds of the...
I'm reading some of these comments from people who couldn't recover an animal they've wounded, and yet go on to take the chance at doing that same thing to a second animal. I didn't even think that was legal? A wounded Elk in Unit 8 (Kodiak), or wounded Black Bear in units 1-5 in SE Alaska...
Sometimes you can get a lemon, I remember a Ruger 77 in 25-06 I got for a longer range varmint rifle, I badly wanted it to shoot well, and tried every factory load available, along with loading a number of handloads. Even changed the scope. It just wouldn't shoot. That was over 30 years ago, but...
I realize I'm resurrecting and older thread, but I've run into the same situation with my new Weatherby vanguard Wilderness with the CF stock and aluminumbedding block, It's not free floated either.
Have you had noticed any problems with yours since your last post? I'm debating just leaving it...
US Army '79-86
Started out with the Pershing 1A Nuclear Missile 56th FA Brigade in West Germany, at 19 years old it wasn't exciting enough for me, read an article about the EOD guys, and decided it was something I'd like to do. Volunteered and got accepted in 1981. Spent most of my time...
I just received an EGW 0 MOA rail for my Vanguard Wilderness. USA made and I'm really impressed with the craftsmanship. I don't know if they make one for the Kimber though.
I honestly don't think I would be able to tell the difference in light transmission with identical scopes, and one has a 50mm objective vs a 42mm on the other. Up here in Alaska there's no rules about hunting hours for big game as long as you're not using an artificial light. Actual field...
Actually the distance is totally relevant to his suggestion. I'll be using the scope for a 600yd maximum on caribou or goat with a flat shooting Magnum cartridge.
His reasoning is that the MRAD is much easier to memorize vs MOA. He's a Tactical Marksmanship Instructor, and the vast majority of...
Good point. I'm much more comfortable with the MOA system, especially since the rifle I'll be using it on won't be used on any game animal much past 500yds if that. It's an extremely flat shooting 6.5-300. The instructor is a personal friend, and very very good at what he does, but he's also...
I typically use a manual scale, scoop and trickle the power for each load. But I'm only loading 20-40 cartridges for a 338 Edge, and usually about 40 for the 300WM. What I'm looking for is that the first shot cold bore is on target. That's what really matters on a game animal. I also give my...
