Probably good advice. I only get to do this every few years, so I enjoy the buildup ,and I want to give it my best effort. thanks for the insight, but ultimately, hole in 2 lungs and they don't live long.
Depends what you do. if you just have them debone it, it may not be that expensive. However, my buddy lives in a big city and doesn't have a good wild game butcher in the lower 48. He got sausages made, and a bunch of processed stuff, I think he was up around $2000.
I brought everything home...
You have a good point. I killed a mule deer with a 150 TTSX from my 7rm. First shot anchored him, but it was a little forward and 15 minutes later when I got up to him, he blinked at me. Had to finish him. Shot wasn't far in front of where I wanted to be, but didn't get the expansion you would...
it performed fine. I just wanted to try something different. I've shot a couple animals with the TTSX and felt like I left a lot of energy in the dirt behind the animal after it passed thru. PLUS it's a slow time of year for hunting and chasing things on the reloading bench is fun.
Loaded some 200 grain ELD-X bullets and went to the range saturday. Was really satisfying to get in under an MOA and call it a day.
the heavier bullets shot much better
5 shot groups, and admittedly, I struggle with letting the barrel cool down like I should.
I know I'm over thinking things, my buddy is going with us and wants to kill one with a 130 gr copper out of his 270. If that gets it done, I'm sure my 178s will too.
I love when people Get the reference.
I tend to agree but don’t know if I’m settling when I shouldn’t be.
I’m he partitions or copper would be my preference for a bullet, but didn’t know if I’m settling too soon.
Been reloading my 300 WSM and I can get a number of rounds within 1.5 MOA, however the most accurate has been the 178 ELD-X. Those were well under 1 MOA.
You can read anything online and some people will crap on it, but in terms of accuracy they go like this:
TIER 1 (under 1 MOA)
178 ELD-X...
Do a little research, then buy one and roll with it. I'm a believer in good equipment, but often times, unless you live in the back country, you won't know the difference between a B+ pack and an A Pack.
Like drinking wine. Unless you're really into it, you won't know the difference between...
I've eaten them. My experience was they're lean, which is the opposite of a domestic pig. We added some pork fat to the sausage and they were delicious. My son shot a 275 pound boar about 2 weeks ago. Was strongly advised to deposit him in the coyote feeding area.
at the risk of being whiny, I'd love to see a guns only classifieds, and another for ammo and reloading supplies. Kinda sucks doing a search for a specific gun and getting all the brass and ammo options.
I know the Barnes 180 grains are deadly .Had a buddy kill a muley in 2022 with the hollowpoint version and I was able to dump a moose on the spot with the blue tips last fall.
I killed a muley with my 7RM 150 om the same bullet. It worked, but I don't think I got the expansion I would have with...
