Big Agnes copper spur is a solid tent. My wife and i used one for years along with our two dogs. Not the lightest or fanciest but hard to argue the cost.
I’m 46 and getting my first in a couple weeks. I did the cologard last year and my wife, who’s a nurse, was furious I didn’t pony up for the colonoscopy. Better safe than sorry
Boots for sure. I hunted with a backpacking backpack and just carried a contractor trash bag, lighter and cheaper than a dry bag. If you bone the meat it will fit in your pack no problem
I got an email today from meateater website saying they have crispi boots 20% off. If Crispis fit your feet...
I've been using a Rincon with my wife and often with our 2 dogs (80# and 25#). Used the nest until bugs were gone then added the stove. It's been great and I have no regrets. Heavy rain and wind with no issues.
Sorry I have the absaroka, not the rincon. The absaroka is a palace for us. When car...
As already stated, a tripod will greatly increase your ability with binos. Elk are big and as long as there aren't wild horses in your unit then a spotter probably isn't necessary. However necessary isn't always the reason to buy new gear is it
Edit - I'm never looking more than a few miles...
I always add 2 or 3 oz of extra water and soak 50% longer than package says with peak. However I’m generally at higher elevation. I also massage the bag a few times throughout the soak.
Unrelated, I found Alpine Ranch meals out of Idaho this year. Worth a try!
I purchased my first spotter this year and went with the ATC. I primarily back pack hunt and am a meat hunter. Anything larger wouldn't fit in my pack, especially as the weather changes
I don't have a written recipe to share, I just follow general procedure and adjust flavors as I go
Cubed meat, doesn't need to be super trimmed, I prefer tougher cuts but you could use backstrap and then skip the braising part
chicken stock or water
Coconut milk
massaman curry paste
palm sugar...
27 is no joke in regards to terrain and access. Same can be said for both units on either side of 27, I have hunted all three of them. Are there roads, yes, but they may be far more rugged than what you consider a road back home and without a capable vehicle you will get in trouble quick. Some...
My spare is a petzl e-lite, weighs nothing and lives in my emergency kit. I haven’t had a head lamp fail but if I did it would be a real bummer with dead fall, rock fields etc after sundown. Could potentially lead to much bigger adventure than anticipated
