I have a Cooper in 6.5 PRC, Cooper sends out a test target with load info on it. The half moa load was a 124 grain Hammer Hunter with 56.0 grains of Magnum. I was able to duplicate that load and accuracy but Labradar showed it at mid 2700 fps and some change. This was Creedmoor speed, and the...
I own a couple of Coopers one in 6.5 Creed and the other in 6.5 PRC. These are niche rifles and while they are fine guns, their cost has gone out of sight. If I were to purchase a 6.5 PRC tomorrow with 2K (cost of a Waypoint +-) I'd spend that money on a Seekins.
The real answer is, that each person's situation is unique to themselves. Even a Chief's Special with its five shots is better than a golf club. A suppressed AR/SBR with a 5.56 is still going to be pretty loud in a residence. So's a shotgun. Subsonic Blackout rounds still aren't cheap. My...
I just went through this mess with a new to me Cooper MZ. This one has a fluted barrel and the gunsmith didn't want to drill a front post. I got a globe from Arrowhead for the price of a kidney, and with a couple of shims to get it to fit the barrel and a gallon of loctite, I had a front sight...
I have both a 6.5 Creedmoor and a 6.5 PRC. I shoot the 124 Hammer Hunter and both are extremely accurate in my rifles. Unfortunately I cannot comment on their effectiveness on game. I will confess however Natchez had a sale and I bought some 127 Barnes LRX's. I haven't made a load for them yet...
My experience mirrors the OP's. The only elk I see are on lands I can't hunt, or out of season. In season, in any GMU I can hunt, with a rifle in my hands, I have a better chance of sitting on a rock and having a cup of coffee with Sasquatch.
I have not pulled a first-choice tag for any species since the free points, and no upfront money. Also, I played the youth draw every time but this year, and got nothing. I also live in Colorado and I'm not putting in for premier units.
No negatives for me. But feel free to swim in your PPU ammo fort like Scrouge Mcduck. While conveniently ignorant of the 55+ page of 6.5 kills with photo's, ranges of kills, and field forensic photos. And those of it's little siblings. Meanwhile you can send me a like thread of awesome 270...
It's painfully obvious he's emotionally invested in the 270 Winchester. I had one, it was ok. None of his listed reasons was good enough for me to keep it, as the 6.5 PRC just shot better, is more accurate, and was simple to reload for. To be honest I thought the same thing about the 6.5...
I'm in the G45 and Radian crowd. But just to be different, I've heard good things about Jacob Gray's TWC9. It's the one I'd buy, and I qualify for Staccato LEO discount. That is, of course, if you're actually going to carry it.
I can't speak to the Swede, but I've owned two 6.5 PRC's and they both, (using handloads) were more accurate than the custom shop CZ 270 Winchester Sonoran I owned. By a decent margin. Perceived recoil seems to be less also at least to me. I submit the 6.5 PRC is a better 270 Winchester. I feel...
My original elk rifles were a .338 WM for a primary and a 375 H&H for a secondary. Now they are a 6.5 PRC and a 6.5 CM. IMO the CM is a better .308, and the PRC is a better 270 Win. I like the reduction in weight and recoil. Bullets have caught up with the CAD designs and CNC machining of the...
