Just got back from my first range trip with the new weatherby .223. Bought 300 pieces of primed Norma brass, so figured I’d play around with some loads to get rid of those primers and form the brass.
Both published loads I referenced had 26.0 as the max for varget (compressed). I loaded up to...
I know this is an old thread and OP has probably decided and moved on, but I’m really surprised to see no love for the nosler partition. They’re expensive, but they work. And they’ve been working for a loooong time
Success! Backed out a full turn and good to go. Thank y’all so much! Never have used a die with a crimp, and honestly didn’t realize this had one (until y’all asked so i looked the product up). Thanks again!
The main issue I’m trying to chase only happened in the charged rounds. The dummy round I made with no powder did not grow the base to shoulder dimension and chambers perfectly. When I add powder, base to shoulder grows and no longer chambers
Factory new: 0.2435” OD
Neck sized: 0.2430” OD
Bullet seated: 0.2470” OD
Expander ball in the die. Whatever the die came with is what I’m using - no extra steps. Neck size with RCBS 11130 and seat.
All I have is some imperial sizing wax. Put some on a Q tip and did one quick swirl inside the neck after charging and seated. Same issue.
Sized necks are reading 0.2225”, bullets are 0.2235” - one thousandth interference
New brass is 0.354”. 2 of the problem loaded rounds are 0.355”, but 1 is still 0.354”. The primary dimension that’s grown is base to shoulder
Edit: bullet doesn’t feel exceptionally hard to seat

Headspace (base to shoulder using hornady comparator A) on the new brass is pretty uniform 1.460”. After seating a bullet, it grows to 1.468” and no longer chambers.
To prep brass I neck sized...
I size before wet tumbling. Takes it off real easily. Haven’t used one shot tho… maybe I’ll try it when I burn through my can of imperial in 2 years lol
That’s what I was using. It was once fired stuff bought off someone else. Their chamber appears to be a good bit oversized, and with the small base die for my AR they were stiff to resize. Not sure what to do differently to prevent it honestly
Got my first stuck case! Trying to process ~450 pieces of .223/5.56 and got number 25 stuck. First stuck case, didn’t have a removal kit. Should be able to get back to it in a week or so when it delivers!

I’ve been using WLR standard large rifle primers and 59.0gr of H1000. I recently found some CCI 250s locally, so i figured I’d give them a shot. How much should I back off to start working back up...
