i've used plain old brake fluid for 20 years. i have one of those plastic coffee containers with a lid. at the end of each squirrel season i disassemble the suppressor and place in fluid for a week or so. remove, hit it lightly with a toothbrush, let dry then reassemble. works for me. ymmv.
I was driving off a mountain in Colorado after a successful archery hunt for elk. Out of boredom i turned on the radio sometime after the first plane hit. After the 2nd plane hit news of the attack was on every radio station i could pick up. I listened to nothing but radio reports and...
I've used 30 or more guides since tha late 70s for elk, moose, bear and other game. Every one had a primary job, with guiding being their favorite 2nd job. Many worked construction. My guess is that very few live off the proceeds from guiding, rather they guide for the supplemental income...
I took both shots back in March. Caught the virus in early July. Headache and minor lung congestion, plus I lost taste and smell. Recovered in 3 or 4 days. Taste is better, but can't smell much.
i'm older than most here and own both wood/blue and stainless synthetic hunting rifles. i hunted alaska for years using a tang ruger m77 in 270 win. obviously there is still a place for wood/blue rifles but they have been supplanted by synthetic stocks and sometimes stainless metal. it's all...
In a normal week the wife and I eat fried crappie, fried shrimp, deer or elk cubed steak that is also fried, broiled salmon, usually a crok pot chicken, and fried pork chops. We're both over 70 and in excellent health. I insist on some type of meat in every evening meal.
I'm a retired farmer. Out on the farm we almost always use vehicles and tractors we can get serviced in town, close to home. No Toyota dealerships within 65 miles, but have a couple Ford, Chevy, dodge within 14 miles. I switch every few years from Ford to Chevy. I've owned several of the...
I live on a farm and have deer all around me. At 71 I still climb into a ladder or box stand, and still go to Colorado, Montana, or New Mexico every year for elk. When I get too old to climb into a stand I'll switch to a ground blind. When I get too old for that I plan on hunting deer...
I've used a standard ruger m77 mk2, wood/blued in 30-06, with a Leupold 3-9x40 since 1996. No idea as to weight. Probably killed 20 elk with that rifle. From about 1973 to 1995 I used a standard tang ruger m77 in 270 win. That rifle killed elk as well. Lots of nice rifles posted on this...
I've taken a few Antelope and many elk. I used a 270win, 308win, and a 30-06. Antelope are relatively easy, not always true with elk. Use enough gun if elk are on your list.
I took both shots several months ago. About 4 weeks ago I developed what the doctor said was a sinus infection and some lung congestion. Doc never mentioned covid. He gave me a decadron injection, a z pack, and an antibiotics. 2 days after I started talking the meds I lost all taste and...
As a younger man I wanted more stuff, guns included. Now that I have many grandchildren, I give guns to them. My 4 sons have all the guns they'll need and I'm giving each grandchild whatever their dads want them to have. I'm keeping the same 30-06 I've used since 1996. I love elk hunting...
Mine is a stock wood/blue ruger m77 mark 2 in 30-06 . In 1996 I had a gunsmith work the trigger to 3lbs and bed the action. Since then it's killed probably 18 elk, a couple of moose, many deer, and a truck load of hogs. I have owned many other rifles but have been giving them to my kids and...
I suggest allowing him to shoot the 30-06. It'll easily take a moose, and won't rattle his teeth like the 340wby. No need to complicate things. Good luck on your hunt.
I hunt ducks, deer, hogs, and travel to either Colorado, New Mexico, or Montana every year for at least one elk hunt. Retired now, so I'm either crappie fishing in the warm months or hunting during the colder months. I have 14 grandchildren, and trying to introduce each on to hunting as...
