some of the comments on this thread has me thinking maybe a SBR 308 is really what I need. 308 is plentiful, i already have a 30cal can too.
Though my 7saum with 18" barrel and 7" suppressor isn't much longer than my 270 (25"), it still took some effort to change windows in my deer stand last...
Any capable of killing elk? What cartridge?
And the 8.6 is lethal farther than 200 yards, I'm just saying where I hunt deer, I only need 200 yards and a short weapon is desirable.
I don't think there are many/if any bolt action calibers that work well at 12" barrel length. I haven't seen any, anyways.
So the appeal to me is a suppressed 12" (19" with suppressor) 200 yard deer blind gun sounds sweet.
Not yet. I wonder when ammo will be available. Seeing as the local Fleet Farm didn't have any 30-06, only 4 boxes of 7rm, no 6.5 Creedmoor, no 243, no 270. Tons of 223 and 556 and 308, seems like a lot of calibers need more ammo before they do a limited run of this exotic cartridge. Guess...
I just built a Tikka t3x 7rsaum with 18" proof CF barrel, with 59gr IMR4831 i was at 2840fps,using a 150gr Bulldozer 2 from Badlands Precision The IMR load data said at 59.3 they had 3022fps. So i'm probably 160-180fps slower with 6" shorter barrel. This is very close to the 25fps per inch...
Well i finally got my Tikka with Whidden chabered 7rsaum 18" proof CF barrel put onto my Grayboe Phoenix stock. Running the stock tikka trigger at 2lb pull (factory adjusted) and factory magazine.
I'm working up a load with IMR4831, Federal 215primer and Badlands Precision 150gr Bulldozer 2...
kinda, I had a proof barrel chambered in 7rsaum and put that on my tikka action. With factory magazine, I can load as long a bullet as there is without issue.
Notice how the 10" arcalok rail slightly contacts the stock. There is a little gap between the rail and stock now, but for a bipod or tripod, im assuming it wont affect anything. No I don't shoot PRS, but I got a baricade stop for their rail for shits and giggles.
You can see the two screws I...
