I have a browning BAR DBM chambered in 308 win with a custom cut witt machine muzzlebrake. I'd like to trade for a scout rifle in the same caliber. I don't really need a repeater, and I like the handloading options for bolt actions. I want something real handy 16 inch barrel +/-, I have short...
The oal for that load in my gun is 2.88 which putis it .053" from the jam point. Havent tried different seating depths yet because hunting season was upon me and I needed to call it good at that point.
I really need to do the same, maybe now that I got my deer I can go and help out with the bear issues. They really are everywhere out here. I want to try making bear sausage too, my cousin told me it's good.
I pressure tested it up to 55 grains if i remember correctly (don't have my notes in front of me), but groups opened up after 53 grains (not hugely mind you, but not .5 moa). After 53.5 grains i was seeing flat primers and harder bolt lift.
I take a sheet of camo mesh and drape it over my head and torso, then another piece of mesh over my legs. That way you can move your hands underneath it and set your earplugs and check your phone and stuff without disturbing any turkeys coming up from the side. It's like having a little blind...
my advice is to not use jake-hen combos but stick to either male turkey or female turkey. In the fall they are all grouped up males with males and females with females, I've had groups of hens run away from a jake decoy when I though they were coming in hot. Same with calling, call as a tom to a...
A bergara b-14 wilderness ridge 24in barrel.
I also have a load 52.5 grains of that 4955 with the barnes 127grain lrx. Getting around 3000fps with it. My main problem with the load is a big standard deviation in velocity. So far I've only hunted with it around the 100 yard range so I don't...
glass in the morning and figure out where they're bedding, then when you're sure they've bedded down and the wind has stabilized get down wind of them and get in as close as you can, then either shoot them bedded or wait for them to go to water or feed in the evening.
I ended up at 52.5 grains with the 4955 and the 130 grain lehigh bullets, <1" groups at 100 yards, and I'm not a great shooter so that's pretty good for me. Got some barnes lrx 127 grains and planning to do a work up with that as well. Will post when I have accuracy info. I'm using hornady brass...
Any updates on this? I have two pounds of the stuff and I'm going to work up some 6.5 prc loads with 130 grain controlled chaos and 127 grain lrx, also, emailed Unknown and they said to start out just under 50 and work up to low 50's
Drove out to buddies old family homestead, hang out by the truck for half hour, walk for thirty seconds, drag deer for ten minutes. Not an epic hunt, but I'll take it.
