Seeking advise on a new rifle

My thought (since I just bought it) is the Browning X-Bolt Hell's Canyon in a 6.8 Western. I went with the Vortex Strike Eagle for the glass. Have an Antelope tag, Mule Deer, Cow Elk & a Barbary Sheep that should put this combo through the paces...I am concerned about the Antelope given the...

    Barbary sheep in new mexico

Drew the same tag this year; good luck...4 big units and a lot of country! I tried OTC last year...and was able to get a - not so good - shot off on a solitary ram at 300 yards. Hopefully this year I will have better luck.

    32, 34, 36 and 37 New Mexico Aoudad

Congrates on the Barbary! I have this year's tag (FEB 2022) and can't wait for it to roll around. Big area across 32, 34, 36, & 37. Just ran across a cool story from 1972 Sport's Illustrated (SI Vault) about the original herd ranch (just south of Tinnie NM on the El Chato Ranch...which is...

Agree...saw pictures from a couple of the top PA bulls that were taken last year - monsters! The odds are like the NM Bighorn sheep draws! Truly once in a life time.

    Newbie questions

I agree...Cory didn't (at first) like NM and sounds like Randy does many types of hunts in NM....I am an avid fly fish addict and will visit both to hunt for trout. One of the reason Cory mentions in his NM podcasts is time / distance...same holds true for me with Idaho...to dang far. Don't...

    Newbie questions

Stonewall...if you haven't listen to the Podcasts on Elk101 by Cory Jacobsen with Randy Newberg...good rundown of each Elk state that talks strategies on tags (% of Resident, Non-resident, & outfitter), draw dates, over-the-counter options if available, etc. Will give you an idea on the methods...

    New Mexico OTC Advice

From NM Wildlife magazine (2006-2007)...most of the Barbary sheep habitat consists of the rocky open foothills and escarpments...the sheep also are found in some of the major canyons and drainages...very rarely will you find Barbary sheep in heavy brush or areas with any type of trees. They favor...

    New Mexico OTC Advice

The web has a lot of info...I too will hunt next year (OTC) for Barbary sheep when the military removes the current move policies. I only put in for Elk in the draw this year. Hunts are primarily spot and stalk hunts with shots typically ranging from 150-500. Be ready to walk (loose rock and...

A couple of other videos from Paul where he talks about his top 4 calls, along with two others that are situation dependent are very helpful. Google / youtube search for Paul Medel Elk Calls. I bough his app - $9.99 to refine / practice my calls. So far I have been successful at pissing my...
