Definitely elk in those units, but also a lot of hunting pressure. Due to the pressure, elk are typically call shy.
Because these areas are general units and intel is hard earned, you probably aren't going to get a lot of people sharing specific areas with you. Gotta get out and learn it...
Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 1in-Matte scope with UltimateSlam reticle in mint condition for sale. Had mounted on a gun but only used very lightly for one season. Zero scratches or dings.
The scope retails brand new for $300. Asking $250 with flip caps on both ends and mounting rings for a...
I have a Lifetime 115 cooler and have used it for about 3 seasons - I am a big fan of the cooler and the price tag as well. I will keep using them and plan to get another 115.
The 115 will fit an entire deer in it quartered or a front and hind quarter of an elk (with some room for ice).
Agree with going guided if it works in your situation. I would also recommend talking to Shane Scott with Shane Scott Outfitting. He lives in Richfield and knows the Monroe well and has good guides for that unit as well. I would say go with Russ or Shane Scott's outfit.
I’ve killed 2 bulls over 300” on Utah LE units.
The first one was a rifle killed bull from the Wasatch unit that scored 312” (Expo tag)
Second bull was a muzzleloader bull from the Pahvant unit that scored 354”
It is difficult and trying at times raising kids, but there is not anything in this world that is more fulfilling. Make sure you commit to being a part of their lives and the relationships you form will make you a better person.
Also, hunting with kids is about the best thing in the world in...
My 14 year old boy’s first ever bull killed on Oct 10th in Utah on a Wasatch LE midseason tag. The hunt was tough with the masses of spike elk hunters out and about. Despite the orange army madness, my son got it done. 220 yard shot
Killed my best bull at first light on opening morning in 2020 on my Utah LE muzzy hunt. I located him on the Saturday and Sunday before the opener and killed him first thing Monday morning as he bugled non stop trying to keep his harem of 30+ cows rounded up
AZ site and application process is for sure the worst of all! I don’t love Colorado’s either but it is much better than AZ.
UT, NV, and Wyoming are the best.
Not sure how many Wyoming points you have, but if you are looking to kill a trophy buck and want a guide, I would definitely talk to Eli Grimmett with Pronghorn Guide Service. They are as good as it gets for killing huge pronghorn.
I would agree that somewhere between 2 to 15 miles a day is probably typical for most elk hunts. It seems that some feel you have to cover all kinds of miles when elk hunting as if it is some type of badge of courage, but I would think more about strategy and how you are hunting (glassing...
Didn't miss with my bow (one shot, one dead bull elk), but I did miss with my rifle. Rushed a couple shots on a bighorn sheep and missed, but ended up killing my ram the next day, so the pain was short lived :)
Only have one daughter-she is 16 now and loves to hunt. She has killed 2 deer with a muzzleloader. Since starting high school, she has not been able to get out as much with drill team obligations, school activities and of course boys 👎🏻
She still has the fire though and wants to go whenever...
