RRS TFCT 33 vs TFCT 14L Anvil 30 For backpack hunting tripod

Thanks, you bring up a good point about the time it takes to get on target and get a shot off with confidence. I wouldn’t have thought about that. At some point, I guess I’m going to have to get my hands on the 14L to see if the limitations in stability are worth the 2lbs.

RRS TFCT 33 vs TFCT 14L Anvil 30 For backpack hunting tripod

Thanks for posting this. I have the 34L and really love the stability but have been considering the 14L for hunts that I’m hiking a good amount. I don’t have access to a 14L though so I just don’t know how much I’m giving up and if it’s worth the weight savings. Sounds like you prefer the 33...

    Scope Cam Adaptor

I have one as well and really like it. The case never leaves my phone which makes it that much more convenient. And when I change phones eventually, all I have to do is reattach the plate to the new phone case with a sticker.

    Tripod Overload Comparison

Really helpful. I’m following this as well. I’ve got a bit of a tripod problem myself and have been toying with the idea of some way to actually objectively quantify the differences in stability between different set ups though I’m not sure what exactly that would look like. Thanks for doing...

RRS PT Scout BTC-Pro vs Wiser Precision Nighthawk

Thanks to both thegoosano and parshal for the detailed review between the two.

RRS PT Scout BTC-Pro vs Wiser Precision Nighthawk

My Scout doesn't have any what I would term "jumpiness" either. It feels pretty smooth but now you've got me wondering about the Wiser. Leave it to this site to fix a problem I didn't know I had LOL. What is the height difference between the two heads? The Wiser lists as 3" but does that...

RRS PT Scout BTC-Pro vs Wiser Precision Nighthawk

I'm interested as well. I actually really like the PT Scout for what it is but I've never had my hands on a Wiser.

What were the issues with the the Tricer LP?

RRS PT Scout BTC-Pro vs Wiser Precision Nighthawk

Yes, the RRS will lock up with a BTX 95 but it wouldn't be my first choice. If I'm willing to carry the BTX 95, a more robust head (heavier) would be better over longer periods of glassing. Not sure about the VA5 as it's been a while but that head is significantly heavier so I would be shocked...

RRS PT Scout BTC-Pro vs Wiser Precision Nighthawk

I've got a stx 95 and the RRS Scout does well with it, especially when you consider the weight. Honestly though, it's not as stable as using an Outdoorsman fluid head but that's a whole lot more to carry. I also agree that the Scout allows for adjusted drag settings vs the Outdoorsman standard...

    Spotting scope phone adapter

For the Scopecam, the plate measures +/- 1/16th of an inch from my case (this includes the sticker) and the max length is 4.5 from the tip of the camera opening to the end of the plate. The plate itself is 1.5 inches long. Lmk if you need any other measurements and I’ll do my best.

    Spotting scope phone adapter

I’ve been happy using the ScopeCam the last couple of years or so. The above referenced review captures it pretty well. It’s easy, quick and adaptable. When I get a new phone, changing is as simple as moving the plate to my new case with a sticker. I would suggest getting a bluetooth remote...

    Son’s first shotgun

“Santa Claus” gifted my oldest son a new 870 20 gauge a few years back when he was 12. The action is a lot more finicky than my 12 gauge 870 that I’ve had forever, occasionally jamming. I’m happy with the fact that he had to learn to take a moment between shots but If I were to do it again...

Scope rings / base for model 70

I’ve been pretty happy with both the Burris Xtreme bases/Seekins .82 lows combo and the Near alpha one piece for my model 70s. I like the Burris/Seekins combo as it has all the advantages of a pic rail with easier access to loading and still relatively low. The only thing is if you want to...

    Outdoorsmans Tripod carbon fiber option

If you wrap the top tube of your outdoorsman with vet tape, it will make it easier on your hands when it’s cold. I tried the neoprene covers first but they slide around too much. Regular athletic tape works too but leaves a pretty big mess if you ever take it off.

More than just a rear bag

@Lawnboi I just wanted to thank you for putting this together. The last couple of years I've been going down this road looking to put together a stable platform for shooting (first bipods, then tripods, now bags). I've read a bunch of your posts lately regarding shooting off bags and tripods...
