To echo most others....18 is a good compromise for most standard centerfire calibers. BUT I just had a cva scout 350L cut to 16.5 and it is sweet! re The Scout with Yhm R9 is shorter than an 18 inch bolt gun sans suppressor!
I've came to the same conclusion but thought I ask just in case. I know the market is dominated by target scopes but there is still a place for a simple compact scope. That Burris compact 4x would be perfect if it has a good eyebox etc. I have one of the last Weaver K4's and wish I'd bought...
Does any quality manufacturer make a simple compact 4X scope anymore? I have searched and cannot find anything besides cheap chinese crap or heavy AR combat style scopes. Looking for something sized like current crossbow scopes without the assessories and weight.
I have a CVA Scout that I...
No offense taken, and I am not a Ruger fan boy by any stretch, but they got the American rimfires 'right' (I do disable the trigger blade thingy). It's ever bit as solid as the CZ and feeds better from the vastly superior magazine. The CZ mag is kind of a S-show and rather expensive IF you can...
I have a special run of the American with 18 inch threaded medium barrel. It shoots close to as well as my CZ varmint, and weighs 3 lbs less with a better magazine.
If you are hunting and not just target shooting, I'd probably get the Ruger.
Get that Tikka in 350l and have it threaded by ADCO or a CVA Cascade or Scout.
The Ruger American feeds like crap and the 45/70 in a lever gun gun is a miserable shooting experience unless you are a sado masochist.
Yes, but distance is easy to measure and is constant on a static target. Wind shifts in direction and speed and varies along the path of flight. You also can't just laser and dial.
Distance is easy to compensate for...wind is voodoo.
I agree about drop. Wind drift is the trickier thing to compensate for and a higher BC does help. Like you said though, most people worry about potential shots they will never take.
I have both. I like the Burris better. Better glass and the reticle is very usable. Set at 6x with subsonic ammo, I zero at 50 yds and the 1st and 2nd hash marks hit at 75 and 100 yds. I do wish the reticle was a little thinner.
I'm kind of interested in that Athlon Talus personally, just...
Both. The reticle is just too fine for me especially in timber/woods under 5x. You can point/shoot centering the heavier part of the duplex but it's tough to see the center.
Again, we all hunt in different areas so need to consider this. Wide open plains vs heavy woods on a cloudy day can...
Glad. You like the 6x, I do too but the reticle is poor for dark timber and woods. Illumination would be a big improvement....I'm not talking glowing so you can't see in dim light illumination. Just enough to be visible like a Accupoint.
You also may be very young. Things change as your eyes...
So far so good with a 2-10. I like the target reticle, glass is fine, mounting is a pain with short tube length and the 40mm is actually 52mm (go up in mount heights). Worth the $ if you can get it to fit on your rifle.
Practice, breathe, be realistic, don't stare at antlers, once you decide your are going to shoot...focus on the impact
point only and pick your time. Breathe....
Nice test. That cheap Lee is great for stick powders but will dump fine ball powders out the side of the baffel. It's so cheap I have multiples for different loads so I don't have to bother adjusting them.
The old Lee hand primer is great too.
