It seemed the majority of the caribou we saw were north of us 5-6 miles from our camp. With the wind blowing from the east a majority of the time maybe the scent of the line of camps between us may have prevented them from moving down the river. Most we saw were moving west.
I hope this in-depth review of our trip helps someone in the future. This was kind of a messed-up deal with everything leading up to the planning and execution of the trip. GMU closures, deposits, ownership change, my suggestion is to for sure spend the money on trip insurance and I know there...
Here is my review of our experience with Arctic Air Service:
The attached map gives a little insight on most of the events discussed in this review. The pin is our camp, the green diamonds are approximate locations of the other 4 camps around us based on where I saw them in relation to other...
I had a great experience with Sheila and Mike in 2020, rebooked for 2022 and obviously that didn't happen. I rolled my dates over to whenever they could get us into the field again. Gary called me to tell me about the purchase of the outfit from Sheila and Mike and to rebook the hunt. He had to...
So I know there is a thread on this I looked at before I left for my trip this year. I tipped as followed:
Guys picked me up from the airport brought me to hotel and ensured I got my room and brought stuff in for me - $100 and said i'd appreciate it if you looked out for us because we have never...
Oh, I forgot about Mike! The other owner and pilot for our trip. He was very nice, this being our first trip he explained why we were in the area we were in. He explained the migration patterns and how they summer here and winter there and pointed out different cuts and valleys that were...
We also caught over 50 grayling in the lake we were camped on. We saw 1 grizzly a mile and a half away (exactly how I wanted to see one) and a giant bull moose walking down the creek close by. We saw the northern lights one night and just had the best trip I could have ever asked for.
Well, just got back home yesterday. My fiancé and I were both successful and had a great experience with Arctic Air. I know some guys were not happy the week before we went in it was hot and they said they didn't see much. I can tell you the first 3-4 days we saw well over 200-300 caribou...
Hey everyone! Looking for anyone who has experience working with these items, I bought them brand new and charged up the venture 70 like recommended. I then charged my phone multiple times to draw down the power to see how long it would take to charge. It was at one blue light or less than 20%...
I just looked at the paperwork again, it says 80# which is inclusive of your weapon(s) and ammo. I guess they did that because people were getting carried away with weapons going into the field.
We are renting our camping gear from Arctic Air so we will be limited to 80#'s of personal gear including gun ammo sleeping bag. would it be beneficial to bring a Mr. Buddy heater? I don't think it weighs much but just curious if anyone else brings something like that along to run for a little...
Excellent, Thanks VernAK!
The rifle was her grandfathers and he passed away about 2 years ago. He always talked about hunting in Alaska because he took many cruises there but never got the opportunity to hunt there.
