Great to see the strong science applied to arrow stabilization in the Ironwill studies.
Wonder what the corresponding scientific analysis is of arrow noise (vane, broadhead, shaft, nock, etc)?
Bill, this is an enormous gift to archers and the industry. We make most of our equipment selections based on bro-science and anecdotal experiences posted on Internet forums. All of it sketchy at best. Having these data-based results as gathered in controlled settings helps us all.
I thank you...
Ditto on the simplified rules.
I was looking forward to the five day challenge, but can appreciate that it makes a lot more work for moderators.
CBC==> I'm a fan!
Maybe you should share some with me (LOL)!
I suspect you are a better archer than I am. I seem to kill off about a dozen a year due to busting nocks, losing them in the shrubbery, hitting the shed wall behind my target, losing/breaking them while hunting...stuff like that. That, and I end up...
GT Airstrike is a great arrow and very, very tough (if you are using the nock collar and the footer/insert guard on both ends).
That said, I am presently trying the Victory RIP TKO and liking these too. Too early to measure their toughness though.
Never.
I only fletch about 2 to 3 dozen arrows a year. All for whitetail hunting and practicing for hunting.
The entire time I am building them I am thinking about hunting, and I am building a very specific arrow for my bow and my personal requirements. It is custom, and I am building it for...
Question: upon looking at the AAE/Airazr website I see that they have at least two versions of this vane. One is a parabolic shape exactly like the old Max Stealth, and the other is a shield cut vane that looks like the old Max Hunter. Which is the quiet one?
I am liking everything I see about the 2 person Argali Rincon (very light weight, rugged design, easy pitch), but they are long out of stock everywhere.
Can anyone suggest an alternative? Gotta buy one pretty soon!
Thanks
See pics below of my VTM34. See the quiver post upper right that fits in the hex hole in the riser. I had to file my quiver post a bit to make it fit, but not so difficult and it gave me a tight fit.
I am BTW very pleased with my Hoyt quivers. I have the five and the four arrow models, and the...
I have an UBCO 2023 work bike. Pretty happy with it. Both tires flatted due to bad tube valve stem. Had a battery meltdown too. Anyway, I am 100% committed to the ebike for hunting and hoping my UBCO reliability improves.
Have not installed rear pegs. However, I installed a fatter rear tire, a...
I have an UBCO bike I use for whitetail hunting. I love it. It adds a whole new dimension to hunting, making the trip to and from the stand almost as much fun as the actual hunting. Too, it is silent, gasoline-odor-free, and fast. I hope to never drive another gas powered ATV at least for...
I have a 31" DL too. Archers Advantage says I should shoot a 250, so I do, even though it is "marginal stiff" per AA. I am getting good results though, especially shooting fixed blade broad heads which tend to behave better with a somewhat overspend arrow.
I have decided I would give up some...
Like Scorpion above, I use AAE Maxbond. Been maybe three years since I had a vane come off.
Key thing: Wipe down your shaft or your wrap with alcohol before gluing on vanes. AND, use the vane prep stuff before applying glue. Ya gotta do BOTH.
All my bows are second hand bows. I have bought a new one and sold one almost every year. I mostly buy on the AT site, and only from guys with lots of good reviews and posts (so, a reputation to uphold). Like 5MilesBack above, I work on my own equipment so I have high confidence I can make most...
Been tuning my VTM 34. Shooting 525 grain Airstrike 250s with 67lbs and 31"DL. Right-handed shooter with bow in my left hand.
After a good bit of work I got a pretty good tune (bare shafts and fletched in repeatable roughly 2-3" groups at 30 yards), but did so with both cams shimmed far right...
Just seconding the “lever .30 or .35 with low power scope” mentioned above. I have a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem that I use for exactly the hunting you are doing, and have killed a lot of deer with it. Short, manueverable, lightweight. The receiver is thin, so you can wrap your hand around and carry...
